PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a bantamweight MMA rules bout between Bu Ang (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and knukcle head (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). I don't know about you partner, but I'm pumped for this one!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the bantamweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Bu Ang!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, knukcle head!
The judges for this bout are Eliza Hachem, Donatello Bradman and Damien Edna.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Ang misses with a body kick.
Jeez, both these guys look absolutely knackered already, that's not a good sign!
head fails with a takedown attempt.

Ang scores with a takedown into head's guard.
Ang with a couple of shots to the head there. Not particularly brutal.

Ang stands up from head's guard - Ang perhaps looking for a knockout.
head tries a low kick but Ang avoids it.

Ang throws the overhand right but ducks down into a quick takedown attempt. head was covering up waiting for the punch and Ang finishes the takedown easily into guard.
Ang trying to control the position from guard on top but head is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
head is a painfully thin specimen of a man. You do wonder whether a good body kick would snap him clean in two.

Ang stopping the sweep attempt from head.

Ang is trying to work a guillotine from the top, or something like that? Don't know how he thinks he's going to get a finish from there.

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.
Ang trying to stand up but can't free himself from head's guard.
Ang trying to control the position from guard on top but head is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
Ang throwing shots from guard but he's hitting more mat than opponent.

It looks like we're going to have a standup here. Neither fighter is doing enough on the ground.
Ang pulls out of a head kick attempt.

Ang feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position.

head is looking for a guillotine. You can't force these things though and Ang defends well.
Ang slows down the pace of the fight, as he sits in guard.
head wants to sweep but no luck.
Ang wants to control from the top but head keeps moving.

Ang gets to his feet. head looking to butt scoot but the ref puts an end to that. On your feet son!
head shoots for a double leg takedown but Ang sprawls well. He's pushed head's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily.
head misses with a kick to the body.
Ang jabbing away but nothing is landing.
head will have to do better than that with his takedown attempts.
Bu Ang has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of knukcle head.

Ang shoots in from a long way out. He's driving through with the takedown attempt and he eventually gets it, landing in head's guard.
Ang works a leg free and moves into half guard.
Ang throwing punches and elbows but they're not doing any damage.
Ang lands with a punch from half guard.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Bu Ang dominated that round.
The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action!

Ang tries to bum rush head with a series of wild strikes but head uses good footwork to avoid the assault.
Ang swats away the attempt to clinch by head.
head tries to clinch but Ang is having none of it.
Bu Ang is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
head fails with the takedown

and Ang counters with a takedown into side control.
head stops Ang from passing to mount.
head tries to buck Ang off but Ang is having none of it.
Ang trying to control the action but head is working from the bottom.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

Ang is trying to get an arm triangle but head is defending well.

Ang remains in side control and seems content to stay there. It's a versatile position from which he can work both strikes and submissions, whilst maintaining that control, so maybe he'll sit here for a while.
head is looking to regain half guard here but Ang keeps moving and retains side control.
head is not content to let Ang control the position.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.

Ang stands up.
head shoots in but doesn't get the takedown

and Ang counters with a nice single leg takedown and he's in head's guard now.
Bu Ang overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.
Ang slips effortlessly into side control - very nice.
Ang working away.
head might have to switch it up a bit here because his efforts to control Ang kaven't been going to plan, at least at the current moment in time.

Ang trying to control the action but head is working from the bottom.

Ang is trying to land an Americana. He has the arm isolated but head is keeping cool and he's avoided the danger for now.
Ang landing strikes.

Ang decides to stand back up.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.

Ang avoids a guillotine attempt easily.
head has momentary wrist control but Ang slips an elbow through the middle.
Ang slows down the pace of the fight, as he sits in guard.

head is throwing his legs up, looking for submissions. Ang is aware though and is defending well.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Bu Ang dominated that second round.
The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action! Let's hear some noise people - this is the final round!

head tries to get back to half guard but can't.
Ang controlling from mount.
head flailing away with punches but nothing is landing.

Ang wants to finish this one by submission but head is holding onto his waist, trying to prevent any attacks from Ang.
Ang tucks in and makes sure he doesn't lose the dominant position.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.

Ang tries to control but head wriggling away.
head is in a horrible position here. Ang smacks him with another shot as he tries to escape the position.

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.
head is trying to get to the cage to help him get back to his feet.
head tries to hold on but Ang pushes him away.
Ang controlling the position easily from mount.

Ang goes for an armbar but he's fallen flat on his backside there and now head is on top in guard.
Ang pulls head in close to prevent any damage.

Ang wants to stand up but head is controlling him.
head throwing strikes from guard but Ang blocks nicely.
head is looking to stand up but Ang won't let him.
head wants to control from the top but Ang keeps moving.

head goes for a takedown attempt but Ang pushes him away and we're back to fighting at a distance.

Bu Ang is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach.

Well Ang has outscored his opponent in every aspect of the fight today. Only a scarily incompetent judge or two will keep him from a well deserved win... Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
