The judges for this bout are Mauricio Rocha, Paulo Santos and Edson Gomes.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Souza scores a trip takedown into side control. Nice.
Belfoort is looking for a sweep.

Souza is pausing for a moment. What's he doing? It looks like he's clearing his nose. Oh dude! He's shot a load of snot all down Belfoort's shoulder. That is not cool.
Belfoort tries to buck Souza off but Souza is having none of it.

Souza stands up and we're back to a striking position.
Souza closes the distance, clinches up and gets a nice trip takedown into side control. Very smooth.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Souza tries to advance to mount but can't.

Belfoort is trying to control Souza's posture but Souza avoids it.

It looks like we're going to have a standup here. Neither fighter is doing enough on the ground.
Belfoort pulls out of a head kick attempt.

and Souza counters with a nice double leg into half guard.
Souza perhaps working for something from half guard, or maybe not. It looks like he's just sitting there.
Belfoort wants to get back to full guard.
Belfoort is looking to control Souza's leg but it's slowly edging free. Can Belfoort avoid being mounted?
Belfoort is breathing heavily.
Souza tries to pass to full mount but Belfoort defends it.

and Souza counters with a single leg into guard. Belfoort didn't expect that.
Souza slows down the pace of the fight, as he sits in guard.

Belfoort looking to hit a scissor sweep but Souza is one step ahead there.

Belfoort has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Souza can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
Souza stays in close to Belfoort's body and controls the position.
Souza wants to stand but Belfoort is controlling his posture from full guard.

The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.
The referee has ruled that neither fighter is active enough on the ground and has stood them back up.
Belfoort tries to grapple but his opponent circles
so Souza counters with a double leg into guard. Good agility.
Souza really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Belfoort. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.

Belfoort is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent.
Belfoort tries to strike from the bottom.

Belfoort manages to sweep nicely, so he's now on top. Souza manages to get himself to full guard.
Souza bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Belfoort's guard.
Belfoort is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.

Belfoort looking for a guillotine here but Souza defends easily.
Souza not doing a lot at the moment. He'll have to show some more aggression or the fight will get stood up.

Wanderlei Souza showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action! This is the final round!
Belfoort with a lazy takedown attempt
and Souza decides to take the opportunity to score a takedown. He's landed in Belfoort's guard.
Souza controlling from the top position.
Belfoort looking for subs off his back but Souza has passed one foot through into half guard.
Souza with a momentary lay and pray from half guard.

Let's hope that Souza has the urge to step up the pace any second now because for the last 15 or 20 seconds he's just been holding on tight.
The ref stands the fighters back up, due to lack of action by Wanderlei Souza.
Souza closes the distance and clinches up with Belfoort, looking for a takedown. Souza pushes Belfoort against the cage but Belfoort circles to the side and manages to break the clinch.

and Souza counters with a shoot takedown into half guard.

Souza content to sit in half guard and control for a moment.
Belfoort is trying to control but can't.
Souza prevents Belfoort from standing back up.

Belfoort is looking for a sweep. Souza is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.
The referee calls for the fighters to work.
Wanderlei Souza has got the better of the ground game so far.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
The ref stands the fighters back up, due to lack of action by Wanderlei Souza.
Souza bobs and weaves into range and then changes levels and scores with a nice takedown into side control.
Belfoort tries to work a leg under to get back to half guard but Souza wriggles his own leg back out and remains in side control.

Wanderlei Souza comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
