PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Michael Do (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Sen Nguyen (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Nguyen has chosen "House of the Rising Sun" by the Animals as his entrance music. Both fighters look fresh as a daisy as they make their way towards the cage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 3 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Michael Do!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 7 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Sen Nguyen!
The judges for this bout are Yuuki Gou, Tatsuya Matsuyama and Yasuomi Hirokawa.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Nguyen misses with a leg kick.
Do throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Nguyen's waist but Nguyen gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Do off to one side.
Nguyen cracks a nice hook into Do's ribs.
Do is breathing heavily.

Nguyen clinches.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
Do working hard to break the clinch.

Nguyen breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.

Do tries to shoot in for a takedown. He's got hold of a leg but Nguyen swivels and escapes.

Nguyen clinches up with Do and pushes him back against the cage.
Nguyen tries to pull guard but Do won't allow it.

Nguyen ties up his opponent against the cage and manages to drag the fight down to the ground. Nguyen no doubt will be looking to work submissions from his guard.
Do stopping the sweep attempt from Nguyen.
Do trying to control but Nguyen is working from the bottom.

Do postures up as if he's going to throw some strikes but drops back for an ankle! Nguyen is in big trouble! He looks ready to tap! But no, he's escaped and dives on top of Do, into his guard.

Nguyen is trying to work a guillotine from the top, or something like that? Don't know how he thinks he's going to get a finish from there.

Nguyen tries to stand but Do is controlling from the bottom.
Do keeping moving, preventing Nguyen from controlling successfully.

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.
Do keeping full guard, as Nguyen tries to pass.
Nguyen prevents Do from getting back to his feet.
Nguyen pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. Do is keeping the position for now.
The referee wants the fighters to be more active or he's going to reset them on the feet.
Do will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.
Nguyen advances to half guard.
Nguyen thumps the canvas. Not on purpose obviously - he just missed Do's head.
Do keeping his head moving to avoid the ground and pound.
The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult.
Do wants to get back to full guard.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Nguyen seems content to maintain position for now, rather than mounting any offense.
Do is looking for a sweep. Nguyen is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.
Do is not content to let Nguyen control the position.
Nguyen trying to mount his opponent but Do defends it.

Nguyen is looking for a kimura. It's pretty deep but Do still has the half guard so he's probably OK. Oh, Do has exploded into a beautiful escape there and after a quick scramble, he's ended up in side control on top! Nice work!
Do misses with the ground and pound.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.
Do looking to control but instead Nguyen has slipped a leg in, to regain half guard.
Do is looking to stall here but Nguyen recovers full guard.
Nguyen keeping full guard, as Do tries to pass.
Nguyen can't keep his opponent in guard - Do advances to half guard, no doubt looking to mount.
Do wants to lay and pray for a moment but Nguyen keeps working.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Do tries to score a power double leg takedown but Nguyen sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten Do somewhat.
Do misses with a takedown attempt. He shot from a bit too far out.
Wow, both these guys are really going for it!
Nguyen throws a wild combination but nothing lands.
Nguyen tries to land with a swinging hook to the body but Do was well out of range. Poor timing from Nguyen.

Nguyen might have to switch it up a bit here because his efforts to control Do kaven't been going to plan, at least at the current moment in time.

Nguyen goes for an armbar here - this could be all over! But no, Do has escaped beautifully and is now on top in side control! Oh, that's unlucky for Nguyen but great work by Do.

Nguyen manages to get one leg in to regain half guard.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Do wants to pass the guard but Nguyen is defending well.
Do lands with an elbow from half guard - that looked like it hurt.
Do stalling away here and it's allowed Nguyen to slip out his trapped foot and regain full guard.
Do looking to sit in guard and control but Nguyen gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top.
Do is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.

Nguyen slows down the pace of the fight, as he sits in guard.
Nguyen is looking to advance position but Do has hit a scissor sweep - now he's on top in mount!
Do thowing strikes but they're hitting the gloves, not doing any damage.
Do sends his fist crashing into the mat - the crowd let out a collective ooooooh. Let's hope he's not broken it!
Nguyen wants to hold on but Do pushes him away.

Do goes for an armbar but he's fallen flat on his backside there and now Nguyen is on top in guard.

Nguyen passes easily into side control. Nice work.
The referee asks Nguyen politely if he wouldn't mind getting on with it and actually doing something. Nguyen prefers to stall for the moment though.
Do is trying to get back to half guard.
Nguyen staying calm.
Do is sneaking out the side here. He's bucked Nguyen off and has taken his back!
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Sen Nguyen showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
That's time! Do's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight. This is the final round!

Nguyen had isolated an arm as going for a kimura. Do defends it easily.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up, due to lack of activity on the part of Michael Do.
Nguyen throws a quick inside leg kick.
Nguyen throws a sloppy head kick and Do moves out of range easily.
A really sloppy takedown attempt there from Do.
Sen Nguyen is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.

Nguyen moves into the clinch.

Nguyen pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat.
Nguyen cracks Do with a nice right hand that draws applause from the crowd.


It looks like Michael Do has been cut.
Nguyen buckles his opponent's knee momentarily with a nice leg kick.
Nguyen fakes low and throws an overhand right that catches Do on the side of the head.

Nguyen looking for a takedown here - he's got it.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.

Do is working an open guard so Nguyen takes the opportunity to get back to his feet.

Sen Nguyen comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
Well Nguyen has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
