Introducing the champion to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 19 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Ryuu Matsumoto!
And introducing the challenger to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Sim Jenkins!
The judges for this bout are Taro Takaoka, Kenichi Hosakawa and Yasuomi Hirokawa.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Jenkins fails with the takedown.

Matsumoto closes the distance and scores a nice trip takedown into half guard. Jenkins did well to prevent Matsumoto getting side control.
Jenkins wants to control but Matsumoto is keeping busy.
Matsumoto not landing any meaningful shots this time.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Jenkins is defending against the submission attempts here by Matsumoto.
Jenkins is looking to improve his position.

Matsumoto wants to work for an arm triangle but Jenkins is really keeping half guard well and defending the submission attempt.

Jenkins is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.
The referee walks around the fighters to get a better view of the action. Matsumoto lands a nice short elbow.

Matsumoto is looking for a kimura. It's going to be difficult to finish that from half guard though and Jenkins defends it well.

Matsumoto is nestled in close to Jenkins, controlling him well. He's worked in a nice elbow to the side of the head as well, for good measure.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Jenkins can do anything to dispel that myth.

Jenkins on the receiving end of some nice ground and pound.
Matsumoto winds up and cracks Jenkins with a swinging punch to the side of the head.
The two fighters exchange a few words. I couldn't hear what they were saying but maybe it's more fun if you make it up yourself. Matsumoto connects with a nice short shot to Jenkins's temple.

Matsumoto takes advantage of the dominant position to land a couple of big hammer fists.

Matsumoto seems to be looking for submissions.

Matsumoto is trying a forearm choke… I don't think that's going to do much at this level of the game.

Jenkins is trying to stand.
Jenkins is refusing to be controlled, as Matsumoto sits in half guard.
Matsumoto working the head and body with strikes.
Jenkins is trying to control but can't.
Still in half guard, Matsumoto seems content to control.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.

Matsumoto is working for a submission of some sort.
Jenkins has hold of Matsumoto's hands but Matsumoto slips his arm to the side and lands an elbow.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Ryuu Matsumoto dominated that round.

Jenkins misses with a takedown attempt

and Matsumoto counters with a driving takedown into guard. Nice work there by Matsumoto.
Hammerfist, elbow! yells Matsumoto's corner. There ya go! There ya go!

Matsumoto drops back looking for a leg! Jenkins is in trouble here! The fighters roll with the hold and Jenkins manages to kick Matsumoto off! Matsumoto jumps back into Jenkins's guard.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

Matsumoto distracts Jenkins with his right hand and drops a big elbow with his other arm.
Matsumoto is sitting in guard, working some ground and pound.
Ryuu Matsumoto overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.
Matsumoto postures up and lands some nice ground and pound.
Matsumoto cracks Jenkins with a solid left hand.

Jenkins is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.
Matsumoto advances to half guard.
Matsumoto winds up and cracks Jenkins with a swinging punch to the side of the head.
Jenkins throws a strike from the bottom that misses.

Matsumoto maintaining the dominant position here and is working for a kimura. He's locked it up! Jenkins could be in real trouble here! He's trying to wriggle out but Matsumoto has cracked it and Jenkins is screaming in pain - he's tapped out! Great finish by Matsumoto!
