Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
5 - 5 - 1, fighting out of Las Vegas, John Henry! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
16 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Jeremy Johnson! The judges for this bout are Chris Downing, Gwen Towbar and Wesley Smith.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Johnson scores with a three punch combo!
Johnson fails with a rather predictable takedown attempt. Henry throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle. Henry throws a sloppy head kick and Johnson moves out of range easily. Henry lands a high kick!
Henry misses with a double jab
and Johnson decides to take the opportunity to score a takedown. He's landed in Henry's guard. Johnson not doing a lot at the moment. He'll have to show some more aggression or the fight will get stood up. Johnson tries to free his leg and advance position but Henry is retaining full guard. Johnson throws a big right hand that misses. Johnson postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
That's one minute gone in the round. Johnson lands a nice shot whilst sitting in his opponent's guard. Johnson pushes down on Henry's leg and manages to get into half guard. Johnson prevents Henry from standing back up.
Henry on his back here. We all know that wrestlers don't like being on their back so let's see if Henry tries to get out of the position. Johnson winds up and cracks Henry with a swinging punch to the side of the head. Johnson thows a wild elbow that connects with the canvas. Johnson sitting in half guard, looking to land shots. Henry defending well though. Johnson controlling the action here. Johnson lands a big shot. The thud that echoes around the arena is like music to the fans' ears. Henry avoiding damage under a succession of punches from Johnson.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Henry pushes Johnson off looking to stand but Johnson dives back in and keeps control.
Johnson has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan. Johnson missing with the ground and pound from half guard. Johnson is keen to just control but Henry is a slippery customer. Johnson sitting in half guard, looking to land shots. Henry defending well though. Henry keeping his head moving to avoid the ground and pound. Johnson throwing shots but they're hitting the canvas more than the man.
The referee has ruled that neither fighter is active enough on the ground and has stood them back up. Henry gets his takedown attempt stuffed easily and Johnson counters with a shoot takedown into half guard. Johnson sitting and controlling from the half guard. Henry wants to get back to his feet.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Johnson takes a deep breath and rests his weight momentarily on top of his opponent, to control the position. Johnson not landing any meaningful shots this time. Henry looks like he's trying to stand up.
Henry keeping his head moving to avoid the ground and pound. Henry on the receiving end of some nice ground and pound. Johnson thumps the canvas. Not on purpose obviously - he just missed Henry's head.
The referee decides to stand the fighters back up. A head kick by Henry misses and Johnson counters with a shoot takedown. Henry fights it but they end up in guard. Johnson landing some decent shots from guard. Johnson tries to free his leg and advance position but Henry is retaining full guard.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Johnson lands a couple of decent looking shots. Johnson advances to half guard. Johnson is nestled in close to Henry, controlling him well. He's worked in a nice elbow to the side of the head as well, for good measure. Johnson controlling the action here. The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end. Henry keeping his head moving to avoid the ground and pound. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
Jeremy Johnson dominated that round. That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business.
Henry tries to clinch up and Johnson counters with a nice single leg takedown and he's in Henry's guard now. Johnson stops Henry from standing up. Johnson seems content to control from guard here. He's going to have to remain active though if he doesn't want to get stood back up. Henry has momentary wrist control but Johnson slips an elbow through the middle. Henry wants to stand but Johnson is controlling the position. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Johnson with a nice head shot there.
That's one minute gone in the round. Henry uses the cage to get back to his feet.
Johnson shoots in but doesn't get the takedown and Henry counters with a head kick. That will keep Johnson thinking before he tries any more sloppy attacks! Henry tries to clinch and Johnson counters with a takedown into full mount! That could mean trouble for Henry! Henry is squirming around, avoiding Johnson's attempts to control the action. Johnson looking to ground and pound his opponent to a finish here.

Jeremy Johnson has got the better of the ground game so far. The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here. Johnson landing strikes from the mount and Henry is in trouble!
Henry is rocked! Henry takes a big shot to the dome and his eyes have rolled back in his head! Johnson's killer instinct has kicked in as he finishes the fight with more strikes. Impressive finish.
