PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a bantamweight MMA rules bout between Carlos Santiago (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Akira Ishikawa (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Santiago comes to the cage accompanied by Get Em Up - Cypress Hill. Ishikawa has chosen mindshift genki sudo as his entrance music, which hasn't gone down very well with the crowd. Both fighters really staring eachother down here, as Akira Ishikawa enters the cage!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the bantamweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 4 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Carlos Santiago!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 4 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Akira Ishikawa!
The judges for this bout are Steve Erwin, Skip Squint and John Mangel.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Ishikawa drops his hands momentarily and Santiago takes advantage with a crisp shot to the head.
Santiago punishes Ishikawa's body with a nice straight punch.
Santiago uses good footwork to get in and out and land a nice right hand before Ishikawa has time to react.
Santiago pivots as if he's going to throw a leg kick but stops half way.
Ishikawa tries to clinch up.
Santiago connects with a lovely right hand, straight down the pipe.
Santiago throws a nice looking combination but Ishikawa bobs and weaves to avoid any damage.
Santiago swings for the body but Ishikawa moves out of range.

Santiago takes the fight into the clinch.
Ishikawa has a body lock and is looking for a takedown. Santiago is bouncing around trying to prevent the takedown and somehow he has indeed managed to stay on his feet.
Ishikawa tries to circle away but Santiago has him pinned against the cage.
Ishikawa jumps guard but his hands slip and he falls flat on his back. Well, he's made himself look a right mug there, as Santiago walks away with a smile on his face. Ishikawa gets slowly back to his feet and shakes his head.

Ishikawa shoots for a double leg takedown but Santiago sprawls well. He's pushed Ishikawa's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily.
Carlos Santiago has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Akira Ishikawa.
Ishikawa needs to keep his hands up - Santiago had a free shot at his head there.

Santiago throws a shot from downtown. Ishikawa moves away and avoids it.
Santiago stooping low to avoid any incoming strikes and then lunges in with an uppercut come cross that lands flush.


That has opened up Akira Ishikawa's cut even more.
Santiago tries to bum rush Ishikawa with a series of wild strikes but Ishikawa uses good footwork to avoid the assault.
Santiago throws a decent looking leg kick but it doesn't land clean.
Santiago dips down and scores with a jab to the body.

Santiago slaps away a takedown attempt from Ishikawa, before circling back to the center of the mat.
Santiago smiles there as he lands a nice right hand right on the button.

The crowd are going absolutely nuts as the round comes to an end - what a fantastic round of action!

A telegraphed takedown attempt from Ishikawa is defended easily by Santiago.
Santiago fails to land with the punch combination there - jab, cross, hook, miss, miss, miss.
Santiago throws a right and a left that Ishikawa avoids nicely.
Ishikawa dodges the punch combination from Santiago.
Santiago throws a series of strikes that have Ishikawa backpedaling.
Santiago swings away but doesn't land with a series of punches.
Santiago is really dominating this fight. Is there anything that Ishikawa can do to turn this around?
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Santiago closes the distance and clinches up, looking for a takedown. He shifts his weight and gets a nice trip into half guard.

I would just about give that final round to Akira Ishikawa.
Well Santiago has outscored his opponent in every aspect of the fight today. Only a scarily incompetent judge or two will keep him from a well deserved win... Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
