PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Max Alekseev (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Ronaldo Kikuchi (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). There are an array of beautiful celebrities at ringside tonight! I wonder if any of them paid for their tickets.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Max Alekseev!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 1, fighting out of Tokyo, Ronaldo Kikuchi!
The judges for this bout are Shigeki Fujiwara, Shigeki Sano and Shirou Masuda.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Alekseev fails with a takedown attempt.

Alekseev shoots in for a takedown and gets it.
Alekseev thows a huge punch but Kikuchi dodges it nicely.
Alekseev is trying to control the action in half guard but Kikuchi is working away on the bottom, looking perhaps to get back to full guard.
Alekseev with the ground and pound but Kikuchi uses the opportunity to regain guard.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Kikuchi wants to control from the top but Alekseev keeps moving.

Alekseev pushes Kikuchi off for just long enough to get back to his feet. Very athletic spring there.
Kikuchi rushes forward with a series of wild hooks but Alekseev moves out of range and avoids them all easily.

Alekseev shoots in and gets a takedown into half guard. Alekseev showed some decent athleticism there.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Alekseev is looking to take a break and control but Kikuchi is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.

Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up.

so Alekseev counters with a double leg into guard. Good agility.
Alekseev is breathing heavily.
Alekseev trying to land body shots but he keeps hitting the mat.
Kikuchi keeping moving, preventing Alekseev from controlling successfully.
Alekseev wants to stand but Kikuchi is controlling his posture from full guard.

Alekseev lands a couple of digs.
Kikuchi looking to control.
Alekseev throws and elbow that misses. Kikuchi uses the momentum to reverse the position. He's now in Alekseev's guard. Nice move by Kikuchi!
Alekseev is trying to stand up but he's not managed so far.

A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.

It looks like we're going to have a standup here. Neither fighter is doing enough on the ground.
Kikuchi cracks Alekseev with a right hand to the side of the head.
Ronaldo Kikuchi seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Kikuchi avoids the head kick by Alekseev.
Kikuchi keeping a good distance there, avoiding the body shot.
Kikuchi tries to clinch up but Alekseev circles away and keeps his distance.

Alekseev drives through with a really nice takedown into side control.
Kikuchi takes a big shot right to the temple there but he's taken it well.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Kikuchi goes for a high kick. It partially lands.

Alekseev feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position.
Alekseev postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect.
Alekseev has to be careful here, sitting in the guard of a superior BJJ player.

Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up.

Alekseev tries to move into range but Kikuchi moves to the side and lands with a nice right hand.

Horrible takedown by Alekseev or perhaps it was just good defense by Kikuchi which made him look bad.

The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.

Kikuchi gets in close and instigates a clinch.
Kikuchi is working hard here but doesn't seem to be able to control effectively, up against the cage.

Alekseev pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat.
Kikuchi tries to clinch up.
Alekseev shoots in looking for a takedown. Kikuchi tries to sprawl out of it but Alekseev keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Kikuchi manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.
Kikuchi tries to clinch but is not successful on this occasion.
Kikuchi connects with a lovely jab that went straight through the gap between Alekseev's hands.

That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Max Alekseev. That's going to take a lot out of him.
A slapping leg kick lands for Kikuchi.

Alekseev is trying to maintain a safe position but Kikuchi gets an underhook and turns Alekseev into the cage.
A real battle for position is taking place between these two warriors.

Alekseev breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.
Alekseev throws a body kick but he was well out of range there.
Alekseev misses with an attempted mid kick.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Ronaldo Kikuchi showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action! So, we enter the final round. Let's see if either fighter can bring us a finish, or whether we're going to the judges scorecards.


Kikuchi feints with a shoulder and throws a nice leg kick to Alekseev's calf.

Alekseev shoots in for a takedown and gets it. Oh and he's advanced to full mount straight away.
Kikuchi tries to lock up and control but Alekseev gives him a forearm to the face and pushes him away.

The referee warns Kikuchi that he has to improve his position here as he takes two more clean shots to the head.

BOOM! Alekseev connects with a massive shot to the dome!

My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer.

Alekseev cracks Kikuchi with a nasty head shot there - the crowd let out an audible gasp there, as the noise reverberated around the arena.

Alekseev is working for a guillotine from mount but Kikuchi frees his head quite easily.
Alekseev postures up and cracks his opponent a couple of times before moving back into close ground control. Kikuchi looks a forlorn figure.

The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.

The referee has ruled that neither fighter is active enough on the ground and has stood them back up.

Max Alekseev showed his dominance in that final round.
I think Alekseev has won this one but let's see what the judges have to say. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
