Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
3 - 1 - 0, fighting out of New York, Ali Fernando ! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
3 - 2 - 0, fighting out of New York, Leonard Garcia! The judges for this bout are Russell Pearce, Eddie Farnsworth and Reed Andrews.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Fernando scores with a punch to the head. Fernando takes a step back and watches a body kick go sailing past his mid section.
Fernando moves out of range as Garcia throws a body kick.
Garcia throws the kick towards the body but Fernando avoids it. Fernando closes the distance, clinches up and gets a nice trip takedown into side control. Very smooth. Garcia struggling a bit here. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Garcia is trying to escape and get back to his feet. Fernando tries for an arm triangle. That looks pretty tight to me. Is this one over!?! Possibly, maybe, no Fernando has let go of the choke. Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought! Fernando is looking for a kimura. He might have it! No, Garcia has escaped the position, nice work there. Fernando wants to work for a kimura but he's foiled early by Garcia, who protects the arm well. Garcia tries to escape but Fernando is in control.
That's one minute gone in the round. Fernando wants to lay and pray for a moment but Garcia keeps working. You can see the frustration on Garcia's face, being in this tough position on the bottom. Fernando tries for an arm triangle. That looks pretty tight to me. Is this one over!?! Possibly, maybe, no Fernando has let go of the choke. Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought! Garcia tries to get back to half guard but can't. Fernando is trying to land an Americana. He has the arm isolated but Garcia is keeping cool and he's avoided the danger for now. Garcia can't do much from the bottom here.
That's two minutes gone in the round. The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight. Fernando is looking to finish here, going for an Americana. Garcia knows the correct defense though, so he's OK. Garcia is looking for a sweep. Fernando wants to control but Garcia is keeping him busy. Fernando has worked his way into a potential kimura here. Garcia is trying to get out of the position but his squirming has just got him deeper into trouble. Fernando yanks on the arm and Garcia is forced to tap due to a very painful looking submission! Nice work by Fernando .
