Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Walter Kovacs (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Marvin Welch (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Kovacs comes to the cage accompanied by All Along the watchtower - Jimmy Hendrix. Walter Kovacs had a look across the cage there at his opponent. He definitely means business

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
3 - 0 - 0, fighting out of New York, Walter Kovacs! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
4 - 1 - 0, fighting out of New York, Marvin Welch! The judges for this bout are David Schapiro, Lou da Vinci and John Kavanagh.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Welch connects with a body shot. Welch lands a head shot. Kovacs dives in and grabs Welch's left leg, looking for a takedown. Welch pushes down on Kovacs's head and hops out. Kovacs changes levels and drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. Welch looks really pissed at himself for not defending that better. Kovacs controlling from side mount. Kovacs wants to lay and pray for a moment but Welch keeps working. The ground and pound from Kovacs seems to be hitting the mat more than his opponent. Kovacs trying to control the action but Welch is working from the bottom. Kovacs has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission. Kovacs tries for a kimura but Welch is defending well. Welch is positioning himself to get back to half guard. Kovacs working away.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up. Kovacs has a takedown stuffed. Horrible takedown by Kovacs or perhaps it was just good defense by Welch which made him look bad. That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Walter Kovacs. That's going to take a lot out of him. Kovacs scores a takedown into full mount! Kovacs is breathing heavily. Welch manages to control the position for a moment. Welch keeping his composure momentarily, calmly looking to get back to half guard.
Kovacs gets to his feet and calls his opponent to stand. Here come the fireworks! Welch scores with a one two! Kovacs had his feet all tangled up there and couldn't avoid the strikes. Kovacs tries to close the distance and clinch but Welch swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Kovacs gets cracked with a nice right hand there by Welch. Kovacs takes a body punch but keeps moving. Kovacs fails with the takedown. Kovacs shoots in and drives through. Welch sprawls well. Walter Kovacs seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout. Kovacs drops his hands momentarily and Welch takes advantage with a crisp shot to the head. Marvin Welch is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs. Welch fails to land with the punch combination there - jab, cross, hook, miss, miss, miss.
Kovacs dives in and grabs Welch's left leg, looking for a takedown. Welch pushes down on Kovacs's head and hops out. Kovacs bobs and weaves into range and then changes levels and scores with a nice takedown into side control. This has been an exciting period of action! Welch is looking to reverse the position. Welch can't do much from the bottom here. Kovacs trying to control the action but Welch is working from the bottom. Welch tries to work a leg under to get back to half guard but Kovacs wriggles his own leg back out and remains in side control. Welch really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Kovacs. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Kovacs tries for a kimura but Welch is defending well. Welch struggling a bit here. Kovacs tries for a kimura but Welch is defending well.
Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up. Welch scores with a jab to the jaw. Welch defends well against a solid takedown attempt from Kovacs. Welch scores with a decent looking hook. Welch lands a vicious shot with the stealth of a sniper and the strength of a viper. Are vipers that strong? I can think of lots of things that are stronger than a viper - not many rhyme with sniper though.
Welch lunges at Kovacs with a hook that half lands and is half blocked by Kovacs's hand. Welch scores with a nice looking left hook and follows it up with an uppercut!
Welch looks to land a combination. Kovacs sees it coming but can only parry a couple of the shots.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Welch lunges in with swinging rights and lefts but Kovacs circles away quickly and effectively. Kovacs fails in his attempt to clinch. Some wild striking there from Welch.
Kovacs changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Welch tries to avoid it but Kovacs manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Welch to the ground. Welch escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet. The crowd cheers as Welch lands an impressive looking overhand right. Kovacs doesn't seem phased though. Nice sprawl there from Welch as Kovacs shoots in. A jab lands there for Welch. Kovacs looks for a takedown but Welch sprawls well. Welch takes a step towards his opponent and connects with a left hand, before circling away. Kovacs takes a shot to the eye socket. That's gotta hurt. As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action. Kovacs shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says Welch as he avoids it easily. Welch is landing a lot of head punches in this opening round! Kovacs had better start moving his head a bit unless he wants his face to turn into pâté. The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so! Welch lands a jab to the nose. Welch misses with a jab and misses with a cross straight after too.
Welch scores with a punch to the head. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
Marvin Welch dominated that round. The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.
Welch lands a glancing blow to the side of Kovacs's head. Welch digs a good hook to Kovacs's body.
Kovacs fails miserably with a takedown attempt. Welch swings wildly with a hook that is half blocked by Kovacs. Welch dips down and scores with a jab to the body. Welch scores with a one two! Kovacs had his feet all tangled up there and couldn't avoid the strikes. Kovacs tries to clinch but Welch is having none of it. Kovacs with poor footwork there. He got himself in a bit of a tangle, enabling Welch to score with a decent uppercut. Welch bobs and weaves and unloads with a good uppercut. Kovacs closes the distance and clinches up, looking for a takedown. He shifts his weight and gets a nice trip into half guard. Welch is trying to control but can't.
Kovacs is thinking about going for an arm triangle but he can't free his leg.
Kovacs throwing shots but Welch is blocking nicely. Kovacs is looking to take a break and control but Welch is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.
That's one minute gone in the round. Welch is pressing down on Kovacs's left leg trying to get back to full guard. He's managed it. Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here. Welch looking to hit a scissor sweep but Kovacs is one step ahead there. Welch is persisting with the attempt to improve his position. Welch working a defensive guard here.
Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up. Kovacs fails with a takedown attempt. Welch lands an overhand left. A wild punch that just about connected. Welch lands a jab-cross combination. Kovacs takes a shot to the body in his stride.
Welch throws a jab to the body, straight down the pipe. Boom. That sent Kovacs stumbling backwards but he manages to regain his composure quickly. Welch scores with a nice head shot.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Nice cross by Welch. Welch misses with the combination.
Kovacs shoots in for a takedown but Welch shows good takedown defense. That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Walter Kovacs. That's going to take a lot out of him. Welch thuds a left hand into Kovacs's body. Kovacs walks straight into an uppercut. Luckily it didn't land flush. Kovacs on the wrong end of a nice jab. Nice uppercut there from Welch.
Kovacs is rocked! Welch moves into range and throws a lovely three punch combination. Oh Kovacs is still all over the place! His legs are completely gone! Will he be able to recover?!! This has been an exciting period of action! I'm just looking down at my notes here and I see that.... oh! Welch has cracked Kovacs with a big right, followed by a left! He's out on his feet! Welch lands another huge swinging hook and Kovacs tumbles to the canvas! The ref dives in to save Kovacs, before Welch can land any more shots!
Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:40 of round 2, we have a winner by way of KO (Punches). Marvin Welch!
