PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between John Doe (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Niko Sanders (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Niko Sanders will no doubt be trying to keep this one on the feet, where he has a distinct advantage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 2 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, John Doe!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 4 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Niko Sanders!
The judges for this bout are Cecil Peabody, Gwen Towbar and Stewart Dunkirk.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Sanders tries to shoot in for a takedown. He's got hold of a leg but Doe swivels and escapes.

Sanders instigates a clinch.
Doe fails to pull the fight into his guard.
Doe jumps guard but Sanders stands there with Doe around his waist. Doe gives up and drops back to his feet. We remain in the clinch.
Doe tries to pull guard but Sanders won't allow it.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for John Doe. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Sanders lands an elbow that stopped Doe in his tracks for a moment.

Sanders breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.
Sanders is looking to take this fight into the clinch.
A really sloppy takedown attempt there from Doe.

Doe shoots in and gets a takedown into half guard. Doe showed some decent athleticism there.
Doe prevents Sanders from standing back up.
Doe is controlling the pace.
Sanders won't allow Doe to pass to mount.

Doe throwing shots but they're hitting the canvas more than the man.
Sanders is looking to get back to full guard here but Doe has managed to pass to side control instead.
Doe tries to control but Sanders wriggling away.

Doe takes a little breather and maintains the position. The referee will be looking for him to stay active from such a dominant position though.

Doe goes for an armbar but Sanders turns quickly into his guard - lovely anticipation from Sanders.

The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.
Sanders postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect.
There's a bit of a scramble here and now Doe is on top in guard.
Doe stands up over Sanders, holding his feet. He dives back in and lands a decent shot to the head.
Sanders is trying to stand up but he's not managed so far.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Sanders looks gassed!
Sanders utilising some decent striking defenses from the guard, preventing the ground and pound.

Doe wants to control from the top but Sanders keeps moving.
Sanders wants to stand but Doe is controlling the position.
Doe is looking to advance position but Sanders has hit a scissor sweep - now he's on top in mount!
Doe tries to lock up and control but Sanders gives him a forearm to the face and pushes him away.
Doe wants to get back to his feet.
Doe slips a leg in and gets back to half guard.
Doe is trying to control but can't.
The fighters are battling for position here. Doe manages to regain full guard. Nice work.

Sanders stands up from guard. Let's bang!
Sanders tries to clinch but Doe moves out of range.

Sanders throws a head kick that misses.
Sanders tries a switch kick but it misses it's target.
Sanders keeps the fight standing with a nice sprawl.
Niko Sanders seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

Sanders rushes Doe and pushes him back against the cage in a clinch.
Sanders gets an overhook and lands an elbow to the side of the head.
Doe tries to pull guard but Sanders won't allow it.
Doe takes an elbow to the forehead.

Sanders manages to break the clinch.
Doe shoots in but Sanders avoids the takedown attempt easily.
Sanders closes the distance and clinches up with Doe, looking for a takedown. Sanders pushes Doe against the cage but Doe circles to the side and manages to break the clinch.
Horrible takedown by Doe or perhaps it was just good defense by Sanders which made him look bad.
Sanders tries to clinch there but Doe circles away.
Sanders gets his takedown attempt stuffed easily

and Doe counters with a takedown into full mount! That could mean trouble for Sanders!

Doe goes for an armbar but he's not got it… Sanders turns into him and now he's in Doe's guard.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for leaving it all in the cage!
Doe wants to sweep here but Sanders controlling him for the moment.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

John Doe dominated that round.
Well, the break between rounds is over. Let's get back to the scrappin!


Doe shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with Sanders but Sanders pushes him off and we're back to square one.
Doe throws an overhand right that lands on Sanders's shoulder, as Sanders tries to avoid the shot.
Sanders throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle.
Doe fails with the takedown.
Sanders circles away from the clinch attempt.
Sanders tries to close the distance and clinch up but Doe swats him away and circles back towards the center.

and Doe counters with a shoot takedown. Sanders fights it but they end up in guard.
Sanders wants to stand and escape but Doe is having none of it.
Doe pushes down on Sanders's leg and manages to get into half guard.

Doe is working for a kimura but Sanders is defending it quite comfortably.
Doe missing with some ground and pound from the half guard.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

Sanders pushes Doe off looking to stand but Doe dives back in and keeps control.

Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up.
Doe looks for a takedown but Sanders sprawls well.

Doe misses with a series of strikes from mount. He'll no doubt be working on his ground and pound when he gets back to the gym.
Doe postures up and cracks his opponent a couple of times before moving back into close ground control. Sanders looks a forlorn figure.
Doe has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.
Sanders tries to hold on but Doe postures up.

John Doe overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.

Doe lands a heavy elbow.
Doe sitting in mount, just looking to control for the moment.
Sanders wants to control but Doe is having none of it.
Doe fakes a shot to the body and cracks his opponent in the head. Nice ground and pound there!

Sanders really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Doe. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.

Doe is looking to secure an arm. He's managed it! He's pivoting for an armbar - that looks tight! But Sanders has managed to get out of it and now he's in a dominant position. Nice work from Sanders!

Doe shoots in for a takedown! He's got it and he's managed to land in full mount! That's better than Doe was expecting from the takedown attempt, I'm sure!

Doe throws some wild stikes that Sanders manages to avoid easily.

Both fighters are breathing heavily.

Sanders bucks Doe off and manages to get back to his feet!

Sanders's corner are urging him to control the action in the clinch for a moment, rather than mount any serious offense. I'm sure the crowd appreciate those instructions... not.

John Doe showed his dominance in that final round.
Well I reckon that's a shut out for Doe, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
