Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
2 - 1 - 0, fighting out of London, Nathan Welbeck! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
2 - 6 - 0, fighting out of London, Cal Tennant! The judges for this bout are Daniel Bishop, James Atkins and Andrew Berry.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Welbeck closes the distance and clinches up with Tennant, looking for a takedown. Welbeck pushes Tennant against the cage but Tennant circles to the side and manages to break the clinch. Tennant shoots in and scores a nice double leg takedown into half guard. Welbeck is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though. Tennant is scoring with some nice ground and pound from the dominant position. Tennant scores with a couple of good hammerfists. Tennant wants to lay and pray for a moment but Welbeck keeps working. Welbeck tries to roll over but Tennant keeps him under control. Welbeck trying to hold on to Tennant's head to control him but Tennant postures up.
Tennant throwing punches and elbows but they're not doing any damage.
That's one minute gone in the round. Welbeck is looking for a sweep. Tennant is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position. Tennant seems to be taking a bit of a break to think of his next move. He lands a short punch in the meantime. Welbeck trying to control but Tennant postures up.
Welbeck taking some punishment here, with Tennant in his half guard. Tennant keeping composed on the top, looking to control the action. Tennant is nestled in close to Welbeck, controlling him well. He's worked in a nice elbow to the side of the head as well, for good measure. Tennant not throwing his punches with enough precision this time. Welbeck trying to control but Tennant postures up.
Tennant moves nicely into side control.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Welbeck is not content to let Tennant control the position. Tennant is trying to get an arm triangle but Welbeck is defending well. The fighters are going at a pretty good pace and they're both starting to sweat now. Tennant working away. Tennant decides to stand up, so the ref orders Welbeck to his feet. Tennant looks gassed! Welbeck slips a jab and a cross from Tennant.
Tennant moves into range and clinches up with Welbeck.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Welbeck can't find room to land a body shot as Tennant controls the action.
The pace really dropping off here, momentarily. Tennant is trying to drag Welbeck to the mat but Welbeck just about manages to keep his footing. He used the cage to his advantage there. Welbeck manages to pull guard.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Welbeck is working for submissions here. He's thrown up his legs looking for a tringle but Tennant frees his head nicely. Oh but Welbeck has switched to an armbar! Tennant is tapping furiously! Lovely submission there!
