The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Nogueira rushes forward with a series of wild hooks but Shewmaker moves out of range and avoids them all easily.
Shewmaker drops his hands and takes a jab to the jaw for his troubles.
Shewmaker moves away from the strike by Nogueira.
Nogueira misses with a few strikes there.
Shewmaker shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with Nogueira but Nogueira pushes him off and we're back to square one.

Shewmaker postures up as if he's going to throw some strikes but drops back for an ankle! Nogueira is in big trouble! He looks ready to tap! But no, he's escaped and dives on top of Shewmaker, into his guard.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
Nogueira lands a nice hook to Shewmaker's body. Shewmaker takes it in his stride and looks to land his own strikes.
A combination from Nogueira does no damage.
Nogueira will need to tighten up his combinations if he doesn't want to gas himself out, swinging at thin air.

The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.

Shewmaker fakes an overhand right and shoots for a takedown. Nogueira sprawls well initially but Shewmaker persists and gets the takedown into half guard.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Nogueira is defending against the submission attempts here by Shewmaker.

Shewmaker looking for a kimura but he'll have to free his other leg if he wants to finish that. Perhaps he's just using it as a distraction technique.

Shewmaker shoots in looking for a single leg takedown. Nogueira is trying to defend but Shewmaker finishes it well and ends up in half guard. Let's see if he can advance position further.
