Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of New York, Julian Jones! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of New York, Vincent James! The judges for this bout are Anthony Taglia, Steve Montenegro and Jorge Garcia.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Jones changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. James tries to avoid it but Jones manages to keep hold of a leg and drag James to the ground. James escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet. Jones fails with a takedown attempt. Jones throws a body kick but he was well out of range there. Jones doesn't manage to clinch there - James circles away.
James takes the fight into the clinch. Jones wants to stall.
James creates a bit of space for himself and sneaks an elbow through Jones's defenses. James letting Jones take a breather here. James should think about turning a few of those tyres round his middle into muscle if he wants people to take him seriously as an athlete. Jones dodges an elbow strike from James.
Jones wants to stall.
Jones will no doubt start fighting again in a minute but for now he's just having a little rest, leaning James up against the cage. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. The ref breaks the fighters up, due to lack of action by Julian Jones. James gets taken down but at least he's managed to land in guard. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Jones trying to control the position from guard on top but James is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
That's one minute gone in the round. Jones sneaks a leg through and gets to half guard. That was like a knife through butter how easily he passed James's guard. James trying to hold on to Jones's head to control him but Jones postures up.
Jones missing with some ground and pound from the half guard. James is trying to get back to full guard. Jones is thinking about going for an arm triangle but he can't free his leg.
Jones is looking for a kimura. It's going to be difficult to finish that from half guard though and James defends it well. James is pressing down on Jones's left leg trying to get back to full guard. He's managed it.
That's two minutes gone in the round. A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace. James looking for submissions from the bottom here. Moving his hips around, possibly looking for an armbar.
James tries to land a sweep but no joy. James manages to land a sweep and now he's in mount on top!
Jones wants to control but James is having none of it. Jones is trying to escape the mount.
James swings around for an armbar but it's a sloppy attempt and Jones is now in James's guard. A big mistake from James there, giving up the dominant position!
That's three minutes gone in the round. Jones trying to control but James is working from the bottom. The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult. James looking for a sweep. Not yet James, not yet. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Jones is just sitting in guard, looking to avoid any submissions. James looking to control.
Jones pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. James is keeping the position for now. Jones has to be careful here, sitting in the guard of a superior BJJ player.
That's four minutes gone in the round. The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action. Jones postures up.
Jones wants to control from the top but James keeps moving.
The referee decides to stand the fighters back up. Jones fails with an attempt to clinch.
James scores with a three punch combo!
James tries to clinch up. Jones misses with a kick to the body.
James avoids a kick to the body.
Jones shoots in and bounces James off the cage to secure the takedown into guard. James is throwing his legs up, looking for submissions. Jones is aware though and is defending well. Jones wants to pass the guard but James is keeping the position. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
Julian Jones dominated that round. The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action!
Jones pushes James up against the cage in a clinch. James has hold of a leg and is looking for a trip takedown. Jones avoids it nicely though and we remain in the clinch. Jones leaning his opponent against the cage. Jones is trying to maintain a safe position but James gets an underhook and turns Jones into the cage. The pace really dropping off here, momentarily. Jones has James pushed against the cage. James managing to block the knees to the body from Jones.
Jones tries to stall but James uses the opportunity to gain a better position.

That's one minute gone in the round. Jones is struggling to control the position. Jones is trying to slow down the pace of the fight but James is keeping busy. James misses with an elbow over the top. A real battle for position is taking place between these two warriors. The ref breaks the fighters up, due to lack of action by Julian Jones. Jones shoots in looking for a single leg takedown. James is trying to defend but Jones finishes it well and ends up in half guard. Let's see if he can advance position further. Jones prevents James from improving his position. Jones is trying to control. James wants to improve his position but can't escape this time. Jones knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for James on the ground. James is looking for a sweep. Jones is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.
That's two minutes gone in the round. James is persisting with the attempt to improve his position. Jones keeping composed on the top, looking to control the action. Jones is trying to control the action in half guard but James is working away on the bottom, looking perhaps to get back to full guard. Jones is working for a submission of some sort.
It looks like we're going to have a standup here. Neither fighter is doing enough on the ground. A lazy left from Jones finds it's target. Jones uses good footwork to get in and out, landing a nice hook. Jones tries to clinch there but James circles away.
Jones shoots in for a takedown from distance. He catches James napping and manages to drive through into side control! Jones working the ground and pound but he's contacting the mat, not the fighter.
That's three minutes gone in the round. James is trying to improve his position. Jones trying to control the position but James is working away. The ground and pound from Jones seems to be hitting the mat more than his opponent. James is looking to reverse the position. James gets back to half guard. Jones sitting and controlling from the half guard. James looking to work for a kimura from the bottom. James is breathing heavily.
That's four minutes gone in the round. A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace. Jones works his foot free and advances to mount. James blocking the ground and pound. Jones controlling the position easily from mount. James tries to get back to half guard but can't. Jones wants to control the pace but James is squirming around nicely. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
Julian Jones dominated that second round. Well, the break between rounds is over. Let's get back to the scrappin! So, we enter the final round. Let's see if either fighter can bring us a finish, or whether we're going to the judges scorecards.
James takes a shot right to the bread basket. Jones tries to clinch but James moves out of range. James wants to clinch up but Jones keeps it at a distance. Jones shoots in for a takedown and gets it. Oh and he's advanced to full mount straight away. James is looking to get to half guard. Jones has hold of James's left arm, perhaps looking for a submission. The two fighters tussle over control of the isolated limb and James manages to get his arm back to his side and away from danger.
Jones sitting in mount, just looking to control for the moment. Jones throws some wild stikes that James manages to avoid easily.
That's one minute gone in the round. James tries to hold on but Jones postures up. Jones controlling his opponent. James working to try and regain half guard.
James blocking the ground and pound. James regains half guard. James is looking to control Jones's leg but it's slowly edging free. Can James avoid being mounted? James is pressing down on Jones's left leg trying to get back to full guard. He's managed it.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it. James has an omoplata and is looking to use it perhaps as a submission or perhaps to transition. Jones is in a bit of discomfort here, but he's managed to free himself and has dived into side control! That didn't work out too well for James. James takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired. Jones is trying to get an arm triangle but James is defending well. James struggling a bit here. Jones controls the position. James avoids any damage from the ground and pound of Jones.
That's three minutes gone in the round. James is being controlled here. Jones's ground tactics aren't going to win him many fans. Let's hope he's got fireworks for us if he gets back to his feet because he's not doing much on the ground. Jones in side control, trying to ground and pound but not landing this time. Jones tries to get to his feet but he's trapped momentarily. James is trying to improve his position.
That's four minutes gone in the round. The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight. Jones is trying to get an arm triangle but James is defending well. James defending against the ground and pound.
It looks like we're going to have a standup here. Neither fighter is doing enough on the ground. James slaps away a takedown attempt from Jones, before circling back to the center of the mat. James tries to clinch but Jones moves out of range. James misses with a wild combination.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over. Jones darts in and clinches James up against the cage. James stalling here - the referee won't stand for too much of that.
Vincent James has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here! Good anti-grappling being displayed by James as Jones tries to tie him up.
And that's the end of the fight! Julian Jones showed his dominance in that final round. Well Jones has outscored his opponent in every aspect of the fight today. Only a scarily incompetent judge or two will keep him from a well deserved win... Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
