Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
5 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Phil Davis! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
11 - 7 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Nathan Corbett! The judges for this bout are Steve Montenegro, Chad Campbell and Franklyn Lucas.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Davis lands a nice hook to Corbett's body. Corbett takes it in his stride and looks to land his own strikes. Davis shoots in and drives through. Corbett sprawls well. A clash of legs there as Davis blocks the low kick. Corbett fails with a takedown attempt. Davis tries for a takedown but Corbett sees it coming a mile off and avoids it easily. Davis fails with the takedown and Corbett counters with a flying knee that sends his opponent to the canvas! Corbett looking to finish! That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Phil Davis. That's going to take a lot out of him. Corbett in full guard, throwing the ground and pound. No damage this time. Corbett must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu. Corbett trying to control but Davis is working from the bottom. Corbett postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect. Corbett won't allow Davis to get back to his feet. Davis has his hands on Corbett's head, controlling the position. Corbett trying to control but Davis is working from the bottom.
That's one minute gone in the round. Davis is adopting a defensive guard. Corbett content to stall in guard here. Corbett working some ground and pound from guard but it's not doing any damage. Corbett trying to land body shots but he keeps hitting the mat. Davis is doing well to control the posture of his opponent and prevent any damage. Corbett loading up with the ground and pound but he's missing more than he's landing in this flurry. Davis looking to sweep here. No luck so far. Corbett working some ground and pound from guard but it's not doing any damage.
That's two minutes gone in the round. The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena. Corbett distracts Davis with his right hand and drops a big elbow with his other arm. Davis wants to sweep but no luck. Corbett stops Davis from standing up. Corbett stopping the sweep attempt from Davis. Davis working the defensive guard well to avoid strikes from Corbett.
Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up. Corbett attempts a leg kick but it's missed by a good margin. Nice uppercut there from Davis. Corbett lands a monster head kick that reverborates around the arena! The crowd goes wild as Davis crumples to the floor! Corbett milks the crowd's applause and if that isn't knockout of the night, I will be very surprised!
