0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Barry McKean! The judges for this bout are Alan Glass, George Francis and Robert Twigg.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Markley drives through with a takedown into guard. McKean keeping moving, preventing Markley from controlling successfully. McKean escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Markley gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Markley stands and steps away. McKean gets to his feet too and we're back to the striking game. Excellent takedown into side control there by Markley. Markley trying to control the action but McKean is working from the bottom. Markley prevents McKean from escaping the position.

Markley looks up at the clock and then as McKean takes his cue and looks up at the clock too, Markley smacks him right in the chops with a big elbow! How rude!
That's two minutes gone in the round. Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless. Markley looking for an arm triangle but it's way too loose to do anything. The ground and pound from Markley seems to be hitting the mat more than his opponent. Markley has knee on belly momentarily but McKean bucks him off and regains half guard. Markley wants to take a breather but McKean is having none of it. McKean has one foot on Markley's thigh - he pushes off and manages to get back to his feet. McKean comes forward and lands a shot to the body, then darts back out of range. Markley is breathing heavily. McKean throws a series of strikes that have Markley backpedaling.
Barry McKean seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

McKean stuns Markley with a nice body shot, before stepping back out of range. McKean lands with a nice body punch. Markley shoots in for a double leg but McKean sprawls well. That's going to sap some energy. McKean lands three nice shots there - that looked like it hurt!
Markley is rocked! Markley fails with a takedown attempt from distance. McKean moves into range and throws a combination. A nice jab followed by a hook to the body. Oh Markley is still all over the place! His legs are completely gone! Will he be able to recover?!! McKean throws a jab to the body, straight down the pipe. Boom. That sent Markley stumbling backwards but he manages to regain his composure quickly. Markley will have to do better than that with his takedown attempts. Markley seems to have got his legs back now. That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Steven Markley. That's going to take a lot out of him. Markley displaying good standup as he scores with a three punch combination. Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd. McKean throws a right hand that Markley ducks under and follows up with a left that Markley also avoids with ease. McKean rushes forward with a series of wild hooks but Markley moves out of range and avoids them all easily. Nice body kick from Markley. Markley darts in and clinches McKean up against the cage. Markley tries for a takedown. No joy.

Markley is keen to just control but McKean is a slippery customer. Markley prevents McKean from improving his position. McKean trying to control but Markley postures up.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Markley wants to free his trapped foot but McKean is holding on for dear life with his legs. As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action. Markley prevents McKean from improving his position. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

A nice elbow there by Markley. Markley content just to control the position here. Markley could do with loosing a few pounds - he looks very soft around the mid section, to put it politely. McKean wants to hold on but Markley pushes him away. Markley controlling the pace for now. Markley prevents McKean from getting the reversal. Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

That's four minutes gone in the round. The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so. Markley wants to control the pace but McKean is squirming around nicely. Steven Markley overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.
The referee stands the fighters back up. Steven Markley just wasn't active enough from the dominant position. McKean swings away but doesn't land with a series of punches.
Markley moves out of range of the strikes. McKean tries to clinch but is not successful on this occasion. McKean throws a hard body shot but it just misses.

Markley rushes McKean and presses him up against the cage. Markley breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over. Markley closes the distance and presses his opponent up against the cage. Markley drops down for a takedown but doesn't get it.

Let's see whether he can work an aggressive guard. It will also be interesting to see what tactics McKean uses from the top position. McKean postures up.

The crowd are getting pretty annoyed with Markley for his constant stalling in the clinch and are voicing their displeasure. McKean prevents the takedown attempt.
Markley has hold of a leg and is looking for a trip takedown. McKean avoids it nicely though and we remain in the clinch. Markley connects with a knee to the head.

Markley has McKean pressed up against the cage and is working for takedown. McKean manages to improve position though and keeps the fight standing. Markley keeps control of McKean as he tries to wriggle out of the double underhooks. Markley breaks from the clinch.

The fight stays on the outside here - Markley looks like he's thinking about clinching though. McKean misses with a two punch combination.

It looks like Steven Markley has been cut. The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here. Markley is trying to control McKean's posture but McKean avoids it. The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end. McKean decides to stand up, so the ref orders Markley to his feet. A punch combination from McKean misses.
