The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Jab, jab by Gandhi - just one landing.
It looks like Freddy Fernandez has been cut.
Fernandez is looking to clinch but Gandhi is avoiding it.
Gandhi avoids the clinch attempt nicely.
Gandhi throws a low kick but Fernandez avoids it.
Gandhi is a painfully thin specimen of a man. You do wonder whether a good body kick would snap him clean in two.

It looks like Mahatma Gandhi has been cut.
Mahatma Gandhi seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Gandhi throws a body kick but he wasn't in range.

and Gandhi counters with a nice double leg into half guard.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

There's a bit of a scramble here and now Fernandez is on top in guard.

Fernandez is keen to just control but Gandhi is a slippery customer.

Gandhi has momentary wrist control but Fernandez slips an elbow through the middle.
Gandhi is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.
Fernandez is looking to control Gandhi's leg but it's slowly edging free. Can Fernandez avoid being mounted?
Gandhi prevents Fernandez from improving his position.

The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult.

Fernandez is in a horrible position here, under a barrage of strikes, he's managing to avoid any damage.
Fernandez is desperately trying to improve his position but Gandhi has a good base and remains in mount.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
Gandhi postures up and cracks his opponent a couple of times before moving back into close ground control. Fernandez looks a forlorn figure.
