Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
5 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Johann Schwartz! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
3 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Glen Quagmire! The judges for this bout are Chris Downing, Cecil Peabody and Alan Glass.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Schwartz shoots for a double leg takedown but Quagmire sprawls well. He's pushed Schwartz's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily. Quagmire looks for a takedown. He's got it. We're now in half guard. Schwartz is staying active underneath Quagmire, who seems content to just control the action from this position. Schwartz is looking to sinch up a gullotine here but Quagmire pulls his head out easily. Schwartz trying to control from the bottom.
Quagmire works his way into side control. Quagmire tries for a kimura. Not really close to a finish though. Schwartz tries to work a leg under to get back to half guard but Quagmire wriggles his own leg back out and remains in side control. Quagmire wants to work for a kimura but he's foiled early by Schwartz, who protects the arm well. Schwartz manages to land a sweep and he's now on top! Lovely Jiu Jitsu! Schwartz is looking for a kimura. It's going to be difficult to finish that from half guard though and Quagmire defends it well.
That's one minute gone in the round. Schwartz is pressing down on Quagmire's thigh, looking to free his foot. Quagmire is holding on for now. Quagmire looking for submissions from an awkward position here. Schwartz frees up his trapped foot and advances to mount. Schwartz is thinking about an arm triangle here, looking to tighten it up before moving to side control. Quagmire can see it coming though and defends well with a couple of strikes to the head and some good arm positioning.
Schwartz is breathing heavily. Quagmire tries to reverse the position but Schwartz maintains control. Quagmire tries to lock up and control but Schwartz gives him a forearm to the face and pushes him away. Schwartz working for a submission but Quagmire is keeping him at bay. Quagmire really trying hard to get back to half guard here.
That's two minutes gone in the round. A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd. Schwartz goes for an armbar but Quagmire turns quickly into his guard - lovely anticipation from Quagmire. Quagmire sneaks a leg through and gets to half guard. That was like a knife through butter how easily he passed Schwartz's guard. Quagmire wants to take a breather but Schwartz is having none of it. Schwartz actively working from the bottom here. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Schwartz wants to improve his position but Quagmire is controlling well.
Schwartz looking for submissions from an awkward position here. Schwartz slips a foot under and gets full guard. Nice work. Schwartz has his foot on Quagmire's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Quagmire works his way back into a safe position though. Quagmire trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet. Schwartz working for a triangle but Quagmire defends it easily.
Quagmire must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu. Schwartz is active off his back here, looking for submissions.

Quagmire looking to pass the guard. Quagmire thinks about going for a leg but decides against it, in order to maintain the position. Quagmire wants to control from the top but Schwartz keeps moving. Schwartz is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive. Schwartz escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Quagmire gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance. Schwartz looks to be working for a triangle here. Oh, it looks like he might have it! Quagmire has picked Schwartz up and slammed him! Schwartz can't keep hold of the triangle and Quagmire manages to pass to side control!
That's four minutes gone in the round. Schwartz looks to move to half guard but instead Quagmire has passed into mount! Damn! Schwartz is trying to escape the mount.
Schwartz has given up his back.
Schwartz turns into Quagmire and is now in his guard.
Schwartz will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions. Quagmire is active off his back here, looking for submissions.
Schwartz drops back looking for a leg! Quagmire is in trouble here! The fighters roll with the hold and Quagmire manages to kick Schwartz off! Schwartz jumps back into Quagmire's guard. Quagmire tries to land a sweep but no joy. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
Johann Schwartz dominated that round. The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business.
Schwartz fails with the takedown and Quagmire counters with a one-two to the body. Schwartz has his takedown stuffed and Quagmire counters with a shoot takedown. Schwartz fights it but they end up in guard. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Quagmire decides to stand up and beckons his opponent to follow. Schwartz swats away the attempt to clinch by Quagmire. Schwartz gets his takedown attempt stuffed easily and Quagmire counters with a shoot takedown. Schwartz fights it but they end up in guard. That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Johann Schwartz. That's going to take a lot out of him. The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here. Schwartz has his foot on Quagmire's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Quagmire works his way back into a safe position though. Quagmire missing there with some ground and pound from the guard. Schwartz manages to land a sweep and now he's in mount on top!
Schwartz working for a submission but Quagmire is keeping him at bay. Quagmire is writhing around trying to get back to his feet. Quagmire defends a decent attempt at a guillotine from Schwartz. Schwartz working to secure an arm triangle but it's not happening for him just yet. Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
That's one minute gone in the round. Schwartz is working on an americana here. Ooh, that looks pretty nasty! Nope, Quagmire has managed to escape the submission attempt.
Schwartz has control of Quagmire's right arm, working for a kimura. It's a bit of a token attempt though and Quagmire regains control of the situation pretty easily.
Quagmire bucks up and manages to get a nice reversal! He's in guard on the top - nicely done! Schwartz throwing his legs up looking for a triangle.
Quagmire wants to control from the top but Schwartz keeps moving.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Schwartz has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Quagmire can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself. Schwartz is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move. Quagmire is pressing down on Schwartz's left leg trying to get back to full guard. He's managed it. Schwartz slips nicely into half guard. Quagmire is looking to improve his position.
