PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a super heavyweight MMA rules bout between Mario Brothers (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and John The Beast (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Brothers comes to the cage accompanied by Eye of the Tiger. Both fighters look pumped up here. Let's hope this is a good fight!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the super heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 4 - 3 - 1, fighting out of Tokyo, Mario Brothers!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, John The Beast!
The judges for this bout are Hirohito Nitta, Kenichi Hosakawa and Shigeki Fujiwara.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
The Beast misses with a jab and misses with a cross straight after too.
The Beast displays good takedown defense there as he swats away a double leg from Brothers.
Brothers shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says The Beast as he avoids it easily.

The Beast clinches up with Brothers and pushes him back against the cage.

The Beast jumps guard.
The Beast controlling the position.
The Beast throwing some rather feeble looking strikes off his back.
The Beast pulls Brothers in close to prevent any damage.
Brothers thows a big elbow that misses.
Brothers postures up in The Beast's guard and throws a big left but The Beast blocks it.
The Beast really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Brothers. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.
The Beast wants to sweep but no luck.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
The Beast pulls Brothers in close to his closed guard and prevents Brothers from doing any damage or advancing position.
Brothers wants to get up but he can't break The Beast's closed guard. He needs to be careful trying to break the legs open, as he's open to submissions here.

That's one minute gone in the round.

Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up.

The Beast scores a takedown into full mount!
Brothers blocking the ground and pound.
The Beast can't quite control the action as he would like just now, as Brothers is looking to escape.

The Beast moves into side control, trying to work for a kimura. That looks painful! Will he finish!!?? No, Brothers has worked his arm free - good work by Brothers!

Brothers manages to work his way to half guard, despite The Beast's best efforts.
The Beast wants to control but Brothers is keeping him busy.
Brothers is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.
Brothers is breathing heavily.

Brothers is staying active underneath The Beast, who seems content to just control the action from this position.

Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up.

and The Beast counters with a takedown into full mount! That could mean trouble for Brothers!
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Mario Brothers. That's going to take a lot out of him.

The Beast jumps to the side looking to secure the arm triangle…. Ooooh, that looks tight… Brothers is gargling but he's managed to escape! Nice work there by Brothers and The Beast has given up the dominant position trying to land that submission.

Brothers tries to keep at a distance but The Beast has taken the fight into the clinch.
This has been an exciting period of action!
Brothers is pressed up against the cage. The Beast has hold of a leg and is looking to drag Brothers down to the mat. Brothers avoids the attempt though and has circled away. We're back to striking at a distance.

The Beast shoots in and scores a nice double leg takedown into half guard.
The Beast is nestled in close to Brothers, controlling him well. He's worked in a nice elbow to the side of the head as well, for good measure.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

John The Beast dominated that round.
The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action!

It looks like Mario Brothers has been cut.
The Beast closes this distance looking for a takedown but Brothers circles away.

The Beast shoots in and bounces Brothers off the cage to secure the takedown into guard.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Brothers is trying to control but can't.

The Beast looking to pass the half guard. Not this time.
The Beast is thwarting Brothers's attempts to control the position.
The Beast is just sitting in half guard, waiting for something to happen.
Brothers tries to roll over but The Beast keeps him under control.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.
The Beast is taking a breather. Brothers says something to him but it's hard to make out. Perhaps he's telling him to get on with it and actually do something.
The Beast wants to stand but Brothers has hold of a leg and an arm, so he's trapped for now.
The Beast thows a wild elbow that connects with the canvas.

The referee has ruled that neither fighter is active enough on the ground and has stood them back up.

The Beast closes the distance, clinches up and gets a nice trip takedown into side control. Very smooth.
Brothers on the wrong end of some ground and pound.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

John The Beast showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
The cut man is working on Mario Brothers's cut.
That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business. Let's get this one finished - here comes the final round!


The Beast dips down and scores with a jab to the body.

The Beast closes the distance and gets a double leg, slamming Brothers to the mat! Brothers manages to get full guard.
Brothers will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.

The Beast shoots in from a long way out. He's driving through with the takedown attempt and he eventually gets it, landing in Brothers's guard.
Brothers wants to get back to his feet but The Beast is in a dominant position and won't allow it.

The Beast wants to control from the top but Brothers keeps moving.
The Beast won't allow Brothers to get back to his feet.

The Beast gets to his feet. Brothers looking to butt scoot but the ref puts an end to that. On your feet son!
The Beast wings a very wild body shot but it does the job and lands to the midsection.

The Beast darts in and clinches Brothers up against the cage.

Brothers is fighting off a takedown attempt but The Beast is just too persistent for him and manages to trip Brothers to the mat. Brothers regains guard as soon as the fighters hit the mat.

Brothers had isolated an arm as going for a kimura. The Beast defends it easily.

Brothers wants to stand but The Beast is controlling the position.
Brothers tries to land a sweep but no joy.
Mario Brothers has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!

Brothers is working an open guard so The Beast takes the opportunity to get back to his feet.

The Beast moves into range and clinches up with Brothers.

The Beast gets a trip takedown into half guard.
Brothers wants to control but The Beast is keeping busy and won't allow it.
The Beast trying to advance position but Brothers counters by regaining guard.

Brothers tries to strike from the bottom.
Brothers keeping moving, preventing The Beast from controlling successfully.
Brothers throwing strikes off his back to little effect.
Brothers trying to keep a closed guard but The Beast is proving a slippery customer.

John The Beast comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
Well The Beast has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
