Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
2 - 1 - 0, fighting out of New York, Chuck Liddell! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of New York, Malcolm Stumps! The judges for this bout are Chad Campbell, John Kavanagh and Reed Andrews.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Liddell connects with a lovely right hand, straight down the pipe. Liddell lands with a right hand. We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out! A slow jab from Stumps misses its intended target. Liddell looks to score with a jab to the body but Stumps is just out of range. Liddell drops Stumps with a beautiful combination! Stumps stares up at his opponent, who ushers him back to his feet - Liddell is looking for the KO! Stumps just misses with a punch to the body.
Stumps has taken the fight to the clinch.
Stumps is trying to drag Liddell to the mat but Liddell just about manages to keep his footing. He used the cage to his advantage there. A frustrated look appears on Liddell's face as he tries to break the clinch. Liddell is trying to work out of this bad position, with his back against the cage. Liddell digs a right hand into Stumps's ribs. Those have got to be taking their toll on Stumps's gas tank. Liddell wants to strike at distance but he can't break free of the clinch.
Liddell has had enough of the clinch but Stumps keeps him there for the moment. Liddell looks like he'd prefer to be striking at range right now. Stumps looking for a takedown. Stumps misses with a punch on the inside.
Stumps pulls guard successfully.
Stumps looks gassed! Liddell wants to get up but he can't break Stumps's closed guard. He needs to be careful trying to break the legs open, as he's open to submissions here. Liddell gets to his feet - Stumps follows without any prompting. Stumps takes a jab right on the nose. That must have hurt but he shrugs his shoulders and looks to return the favor. Stumps moves away from the strike by Liddell. Liddell works his jab well there, keeping his opponent at a distance. Stumps shoots for a takedown but Liddell saw that one coming a mile off and avoided it easily. Chuck Liddell has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Malcolm Stumps.
That's one minute gone in the round. Liddell works the jab nicely. Liddell scores with a hook. Liddell connects with a crisp jab.
Stumps is rocked! Liddell circles and sees the opportunity to plant his feet and throw a really nice straight left hand that drops Stumps to the canvas! Stumps doesn't know where he is but he's trying to survive - Liddell keeps piling on the pressure and forces the referee to step in! This one is aaaaaall over!
Ladies and gentlemen, after 1:16 of round 1, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Chuck Liddell!
