Coming up we have a bantamweight MMA rules bout between Toby Russell (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Vasiliy Zaycev (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Vasiliy Zaycev will no doubt be looking to use his reach advantage to good effect.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the bantamweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Toby Russell!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Vasiliy Zaycev!
The judges for this bout are Valeri Chadov, Dmitry Maklakov and Konstantin Menshow.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Russell looking for a takedown here - he's got it.
Zaycev looking to control.

Zaycev is a painfully thin specimen of a man. You do wonder whether a good body kick would snap him clean in two.

Zaycev is throwing his legs up, looking for submissions. Russell is aware though and is defending well.

Zaycev has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Russell can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.
Russell might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground.
Russell is looking to work some ground and pound but Zaycev has wrist control.

Russell got a little sloppy there for a moment and Zaycev has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Russell has managed to get both his arms back between Zaycev's legs - danger averted.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
Russell is looking to work some ground and pound but Zaycev has wrist control.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Hammerfist, elbow! yells Russell's corner. There ya go! There ya go!
Russell in full guard, throwing the ground and pound. No damage this time.
Russell postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect.

Zaycev is trying to control the position from the bottom.

The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.

Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up.
Russell misses with a takedown attempt. He shot from a bit too far out.
Russell lands a body shot.

Russell closes the distance and clinches up, looking for a takedown. He shifts his weight and gets a nice trip into half guard.
Zaycev wants to control but Russell is keeping busy and won't allow it.
Zaycev might have to switch it up a bit here because his efforts to control Russell kaven't been going to plan, at least at the current moment in time.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Zaycev makes his way to full guard. A much better position for Zaycev.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Zaycev feints and as Russell raises his hands in defense, Zaycev changes levels and drives through with a takedown into guard.

We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Zaycev is trying to work a guillotine from the top, or something like that? Don't know how he thinks he's going to get a finish from there.

Zaycev drops back looking for a leg! Russell is in trouble here! The fighters roll with the hold and Russell manages to kick Zaycev off! Zaycev jumps back into Russell's guard.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

Zaycev tries to free his leg and advance position but Russell is retaining full guard.

It looks like we're going to have a standup here. Neither fighter is doing enough on the ground.

and Zaycev counters with a shoot takedown. Russell fights it but they end up in guard.

Zaycev working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Russell doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Russell manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.

Zaycev had isolated an arm as going for a kimura. Russell defends it easily.

Russell throwing elbows and punches but not connecting, as Zaycev works some decent striking defense from the bottom.

Zaycev escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Russell gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.

Zaycev thinks about going for a leg but decides against it, in order to maintain the position.
Zaycev tries to free his leg and advance position but Russell is retaining full guard.
Russell is controlling Zaycev's posture.
Zaycev stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Russell swivels though and keeps the full guard.

Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up.
Zaycev doesn't succeed with the takedown

and Russell counters with a takedown into side control.

Zaycev wants to get back to his feet but Russell drags him back down.
Zaycev manages to land a sweep and he's now on top! Lovely Jiu Jitsu!

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.
The referee calls for the fighters to work.

Zaycev is looking for a kimura but he's never going to get it from there.
Zaycev is keen to just control but Russell is a slippery customer.
Zaycev missing with some ground and pound from the half guard.
Zaycev has freed up his trapped foot and advances to mount.
Russell is desperately trying to get back to half guard.

I think Zaycev has won this one but let's see whether the judges agree with me. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
