PBP Commentary |
Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Roden Silva (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Zeca Diaz (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Silva's ring entrance music is that housewives' favourite, New Noise. We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Roden Silva! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Zeca Diaz! The judges for this bout are Seu Braga, Emerson Jorge and Daniel Cesar.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Silva misses with a half-hearted attempt at a head kick.
Diaz goes for a spinning back kick but it misses. Silva shoots for a double leg takedown but Diaz sprawls well. He's pushed Silva's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily. Silva tries to clinch but Diaz moves out of range. Silva tries to clinch up but Diaz circles away and keeps his distance. Diaz shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has Silva pinned against the cage. Silva gets the underhooks and manages to circle away. Diaz doesn't react quick enough there as he takes a shot to the body. Diaz scores with a nice takedown into half guard. Let's see what he's got on the ground. Diaz with a momentary lay and pray from half guard. The referee walks around the fighters to get a better view of the action. Diaz lands a nice short elbow. Diaz trying to control the action but Silva is working from the bottom. Diaz is sneakily working for an arm triangle but Silva sees it coming and defends easily.
That's one minute gone in the round. Silva pushes Diaz off looking to stand but Diaz dives back in and keeps control.
Silva could do with loosing a few pounds - he looks very soft around the mid section, to put it politely. Diaz prevents Silva from improving his position. Silva is in trouble now - Diaz has advanced to mount! Diaz has control of Silva's right arm, working for a kimura. It's a bit of a token attempt though and Silva regains control of the situation pretty easily.
Silva is desperately trying to get back to half guard.
BOOM! Diaz connects with a massive shot to the dome!
That's two minutes gone in the round. Diaz content just to control the position here. Silva sneaks a leg back under and regains half guard and is working straight away to try and get back to guard. He hasn't managed just yet though. Diaz stands up from half guard... He's had enough of that ground malarky for the time being. Silva misses with a half-hearted attempt at a head kick.
Diaz pivots as if he's going to throw a leg kick but stops half way. A punch combination from Silva misses. Silva fails miserably with a takedown attempt. Zeca Diaz seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout. Silva throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle. Silva is breathing heavily.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Diaz doesn't manage to clinch there - Silva circles away.
Diaz chopped to the floor by a nice leg kick but he springs right back up before Silva can pounce on him.
A really sloppy takedown attempt there from Silva. That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Roden Silva. That's going to take a lot out of him. Diaz drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. Diaz working the ground and pound. Diaz working away. Silva is looking to reverse the position. A lull in the action here. I looks like Diaz might be adopting somewhat of a lay and pray gameplan here, which I'm sure won't go down too well with the paying fans in attendance... Or the ring announcers come to think of it.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Diaz has had enough of the ground for now and decides to stand. Silva lands a pitter patter jab to the forehead of his opponent. No luck for Diaz with that takedown attempt. Diaz misses with a double jab
and Silva counters with an outside leg kick.
Jab, cross, leg kick. Nice combination by Silva!
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out! The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end. Silva tries to close the distance and clinch but Diaz swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
A close round but Zeca Diaz will probably get the nod. The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action!
Silva has managed to clinch.
Silva escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.
No luck with that takedown attempt from Diaz. Silva moves into range and lands a nice leg kick. Silva scores with a nice one two combo and darts back out of range to avoid anything coming in the opposite direction. Silva throws a body kick that sends a sickening thudding noise reverberating around the arena. Roden Silva is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things. Silva tries to clinch but Diaz is having none of it. Silva throws a nice head kick!
Diaz shoots in looking for a double leg takedown. Silva defends it nicely. The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here. Silva moves into the clinch. Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
That's one minute gone in the round. Silva connects with a knee to the head.
Diaz gets double underhooks to prevent a takedown attempt from Silva.
Diaz fails to pull the fight into his guard.
Roden Silva has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Zeca Diaz. Silva lands a body shot in the clinch.
Silva gets control of Diaz's arms and successfully pulls guard. Silva will no doubt be looking for submissions off his back. Diaz seems content to control from guard here. He's going to have to remain active though if he doesn't want to get stood back up. Diaz drops back looking for a heel hook - he quickly realises he's not going to get it but Silva manages to dive on top of him before he can escape and now Diaz has Silva in his guard. Silva prevents Diaz from getting back to his feet.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Diaz is using up a lot of energy trying to get back to his feet. Perhaps he should improve his position first. Diaz wants to hit a switch here but Silva passes into full mount! Oh no, disaster for Diaz there! Diaz taking shots to the head.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Silva trying to control but he's not successful this time. Diaz wants to control but Silva is having none of it. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless. Diaz wants to get back to his feet.
Silva landing strikes from the mount and Diaz is in trouble! Diaz working to try and regain half guard.
Diaz wants to hold on but Silva pushes him away. Silva wants to control the pace but Diaz is squirming around nicely. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
Roden Silva dominated that second round. That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action. And we move into the final round!
Diaz shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says Silva as he avoids it easily. Diaz shoots in for a takedown but Silva shows good takedown defense there and keeps this one on the feet. Silva throws a nice outside leg kick. A nice leg kick lands there from Silva. Silva throws a two punch combo that lands nicely.
This has been an exciting period of action! Silva stooping low to avoid any incoming strikes and then lunges in with an uppercut come cross that lands flush. Silva doesn't succeed with the takedown and Diaz counters with a shoot takedown into half guard. Both fighters are breathing heavily. Diaz trying to mount his opponent but Silva defends it. Diaz not landing any meaningful shots this time.
That's one minute gone in the round. Silva is looking for a sweep. Diaz is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position. Silva is refusing to be controlled, as Diaz sits in half guard. Diaz sitting in half guard, looking to land shots. Silva defending well though. Silva keeping his head moving to avoid the ground and pound. Silva looks like he's trying to stand up.
Diaz in half guard on the top. He's looking for a kimura... He's got it locked and he's managed to free his trapped foot. Silva tries to escape but it's on too tight and he has to tap! Great BJJ skills there from Diaz!
