The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
de Groot clinches up against the cage.
de Groot wants to get back to striking at distance but Sozin won't allow it.

Sozin misses with a takedown attempt - de Groot sprawls well and throws a nice strike on the way out which just misses.

de Groot throws a hook to the body but it doesn't connect.

de Groot swings for the body but Sozin moves out of range.
de Groot fakes with an overhand right and moves in to clinch with Sozin, pushing him back against the cage.

de Groot takes a swing at Sozin's ribcage but misses.

Robert Sozin seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

so de Groot counters with a double leg into guard. Good agility.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
de Groot tries to free his leg and advance position but Sozin is retaining full guard.

Nice straight punches there by de Groot. You know Roy Jones Jr respects the hands of de Groot.

and de Groot makes him pay by landing a nice hook to the body before moving out of range.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.

Sozin breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.

de Groot is looking to finish here, going for an Americana. Sozin knows the correct defense though, so he's OK.
Sozin is not content to let de Groot control the position.

and de Groot counters with a nice double leg into guard.
de Groot drops back looking for a leg! Sozin is in trouble here! The fighters roll with the hold and Sozin manages to kick de Groot off! de Groot jumps back into Sozin's guard.
de Groot works a leg free and moves into half guard.
Sozin is in trouble now - de Groot has advanced to mount!

de Groot tucks in and makes sure he doesn't lose the dominant position.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
de Groot looking to control but Sozin is working nicely, looking to advance position himself.

de Groot with shots to the head and body - Sozin looks very uncomfortable down there.

de Groot is working to isolate an arm here. It's a telegraphed submission attempt but he's gone for it anyway - and he's got it! de Groot extends the arm and Sozin is forced to tap!
