Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between BJ Paninii (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Jesse James (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Both fighters look pumped up here. Let's hope this is a good fight!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of
11 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, BJ Paninii!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of
6 - 5 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Jesse James!
The judges for this bout are Eliza Hachem, John Mangel and Damien Edna.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Paninii lands a jab to the head.
James shoots in and gets a takedown into half guard. James showed some decent athleticism there.
Paninii moves into full guard.
Paninii seems keen to control rather than go for a submission, at least for now.
James looking to pass the guard.
Paninii looking to hit a scissor sweep but James is one step ahead there.
Paninii has his foot on James's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. James works his way back into a safe position though.

James wants to pass the guard but Paninii is keeping the position.
Paninii is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.

Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up.

James is frustrating his opponent with some stalling tactics from top position.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.
James thinks about going for a leg but decides against it, in order to maintain the position.
Paninii is looking to stand up but James isn't so interested in that idea.

James drops back for a leg but he's not going to get it - he lets go and Paninii dives on top into guard.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.

That was a close round but I would say that BJ Paninii will probably get the nod.

James jumps to the side looking to secure the arm triangle…. Ooooh, that looks tight… Paninii is gargling but he's managed to escape! Nice work there by Paninii and James has given up the dominant position trying to land that submission.
You can see the frustration on Paninii's face, being in this tough position on the bottom.
James wants to work for a kimura but he's foiled early by Paninii, who protects the arm well.
Paninii wants to control but James postures up.

James tries for an arm triangle. That looks pretty tight to me. Is this one over!?! Possibly, maybe, no James has let go of the choke. Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought!
Paninii bucks up and manages to escape back to his feet!

BJ Paninii is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
Paninii thuds his right hand into James's forehead from close range. That could be painful for both fighters.
Paninii cracks James with a nice right hand that draws applause from the crowd.

Paninii rushes James and pushes him back against the cage in a clinch.

Paninii wants to stand but James is controlling the position.
James drops back looking for a heel hook - he quickly realises he's not going to get it but Paninii manages to dive on top of him before he can escape and now James has Paninii in his guard.
Paninii slips nicely into half guard.
James wants to get back to full guard but Paninii has mounted him!
Paninii prevents James from getting the reversal.

Paninii will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.
Paninii isolates an arm and boxes in a triangle. James stacks Paninii on his neck as he steps over and passes to the side. He's now in a much more dominant position where he can look to do some serious damage. Nice move by James!
James wants to control for a moment but Paninii uses the opportunity to move back to half guard.

Well, if James is going to just lie there, perhaps we should talk about what we're having for dinner tonight… I'm having a ham and pineapple pizza… Yum. Can't wait.
James tries to pass the half guard into mount. Paninii knows what he's doing though and prevents the attempt.

James has gone for a leg lock! Paninii slips out almost immediately though and dives into James's guard.

James closes this distance looking for a takedown but Paninii circles away.
Paninii tries to bum rush James with a series of wild strikes but James uses good footwork to avoid the assault.

Paninii swings away but doesn't land with a series of punches.
Paninii leaves James with his face pressed against the mat as he sprawls beautifully, defending against a solid takedown attempt.
James shoots for a takedown but Paninii saw that one coming a mile off and avoided it easily.
BJ Paninii has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Jesse James.
James takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.
A punch lands to the side of James 's head but he takes it in his stride.
Paninii gets a clinch.
