PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Tim Fraser (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Jose Luis Castillo (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). The crowd seem to be enjoying Castillo's choice of entrance music: Flo Rida - Club Can't Handle Me ft. David Guetta . Both fighters look fresh as a daisy as they make their way towards the cage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 5 rounds, for the featherweight championship of the world!
Introducing the champion to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 8 - 5 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Tim Fraser!
And introducing the challenger to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 8 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Jose Luis Castillo!
The judges for this bout are Tiny Johnson, Alan Glass and Cecil Peabody.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Fraser shoots in for a takedown but Castillo shows good takedown defense there and keeps this one on the feet.
Fraser changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Castillo tries to avoid it but Fraser manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Castillo to the ground. Castillo escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.
Castillo lands a head shot.
Fraser wants to clinch up but Castillo keeps it at a distance.
No joy there for Castillo, who threw a few shots but didn't land.
Castillo throws a leg kick but Fraser moved away.
Castillo tries a switch kick but it misses it's target.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Castillo throws an uppercut from half a mile away. Fraser sees it coming and avoids it easily.
Castillo misses with a looping left.
Fraser takes an uppercut right on the button but keeps his composure.

Castillo tries a head kick but it misses.
Castillo buckles his opponent's knee momentarily with a nice leg kick.
Castillo jabbing away but nothing is landing.
Castillo ducks down and throws a hook to the body but Fraser moves away.
Castillo stuffs the takedown attempt from Fraser. Fraser gets slowly back to his feet.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Tim Fraser. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Fraser shoots in looking for a takedown. Castillo tries to sprawl out of it but Fraser keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Castillo manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.

The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.
Fraser tries to clinch up.
The fight stays on the outside here - Fraser looks like he's thinking about clinching though.

Fraser shoots in for a double leg but Castillo sprawls well. That's going to sap some energy.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.

Fraser swats away the attempt to clinch by Castillo.
No joy there for Castillo, who threw a few shots but didn't land.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Fraser shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with Castillo but Castillo pushes him off and we're back to square one.

Fraser takes a thudding leg kick, right into the meat of the thigh.
Castillo bobs and weaves and throws out a fast jab that snaps Fraser's head backwards.

Fraser tries to land with some ground and pound but misses.
Castillo parries the strikes from Fraser easily there. Fraser is wary of posturing up too much because it might enable Castillo to escape.

Fraser is looking for an arm triangle, whilst trying to pass to side control. Castillo doesn't seem that keen to cooperate though. No luck this time Fraser.

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.
Castillo tries to get to full guard but Fraser has control of the leg.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
Fraser looks frustrated there after his takedown attempt is stuffed easily.

Fraser shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says Castillo as he avoids it easily.

Like a baseball bat into the meat of his leg there - nice leg kick by Castillo.

Jose Luis Castillo showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action!

Fraser jumps guard but his hands slip and he falls flat on his back. Well, he's made himself look a right mug there, as Castillo walks away with a smile on his face. Fraser gets slowly back to his feet and shakes his head.

Castillo wants to clinch

and Fraser counters with a shoot takedown. Castillo fights it but they end up in guard.

Fraser postures up as if he's going to throw some strikes but drops back for an ankle! Castillo is in big trouble! He looks ready to tap! But no, he's escaped and dives on top of Fraser, into his guard.
The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult.
Fraser is striking from the bottom but Castillo uses the opportunity to pass into half guard.

Fraser is looking to sinch up a guillotine here but Castillo pulls his head out easily.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Castillo is trying to control. Fraser wants to improve his position but can't escape this time.

Fraser tries to strike from the bottom but it doesn't land.
Well, if Castillo is going to just lie there, perhaps we should talk about what we're having for dinner tonight… I'm having a ham and pineapple pizza… Yum. Can't wait.
Fraser moves into full guard.

Fraser looking for submissions from the bottom here. Moving his hips around, possibly looking for an armbar.

Fraser is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.

Castillo avoids a guillotine attempt easily.
Castillo wants to control from the top but Fraser keeps moving.

Fraser escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Castillo gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.

Castillo got a little sloppy there for a moment and Fraser has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Castillo has managed to get both his arms back between Fraser's legs - danger averted.

Fraser working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Castillo doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Castillo manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.

A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.

Castillo throws an overhand right that lands on Fraser's shoulder, as Fraser tries to avoid the shot.
Fraser checks the leg kick nicely there.
Castillo throws a low kick but Fraser moves out of range easily.
Castillo feints and then cracks Fraser's leading leg with a nice low kick. He's obviously looking to slow Fraser down.

The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business.

Fraser drops back, looking for a kneebar! Castillo looks panicked! The fighters roll across the mat, one looking to finish, one looking to escape. Castillo looks to have wriggled free... Yes, he's got his leg free and he's dived into side control! Good work there from Castillo!
Fraser seems a little lost for a moment, as Castillo dominates the positioning.

Fraser throws a couple of strikes even though he's not really in a good position to do so.
A lull in the action here as Castillo stalls from top position.

Castillo remains in side control and seems content to stay there. It's a versatile position from which he can work both strikes and submissions, whilst maintaining that control, so maybe he'll sit here for a while.

Fraser tries to work a leg under to get back to half guard but Castillo wriggles his own leg back out and remains in side control.

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.
Fraser sneaks back into half guard.
Fraser has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.

Fraser wants to improve his position but Castillo is controlling well.
Castillo seems content to maintain position for now, rather than mounting any offense.

That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action. This is the final round!
