Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Vin Vieira! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
1 - 9 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Nate Diaz! The judges for this bout are , Jack Bonds and Frank Antenori.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Vieira closes the distance, clinches up and gets a nice trip takedown into side control. Very smooth. Diaz looks really tired already! That doesn't bode well for a good, competitive fight! Vieira working the head and body with strikes. Vieira tries for a kimura but Diaz is defending well. Vieira wants to control but Diaz is keeping him busy. Vieira working the ground and pound. Vieira scores with a couple of short elbows. Both fighters really going for it on the ground here! Diaz taking punishment in the form of punches.
Vieira working the ground and pound from side control. Vieira works a knee to the body and follows up with a nice elbow to the head. Vieira taking a breather here. Vieira lands a knee to the body and a forearm to the face. Diaz prevents Vieira from improving position. Vieira working away diligently from side control. Landing strikes effectively there - that will score him some points on the judges scorecards.
That's one minute gone in the round. Vieira is trying to land an Americana. He has the arm isolated but Diaz is keeping cool and he's avoided the danger for now. Vieira tries for a kimura. Not really close to a finish though. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Diaz can't do much from the bottom here. Vieira working the ground and pound from side control. Diaz regains half guard. Diaz trying to control but Vieira postures up.
Vieira is working hard to pass the guard. He's done it - he's now in full mount! Trouble for Diaz! Vieira gets to his feet and calls his opponent to stand. Here come the fireworks! Vieira shoots in from a long way out. He's driving through with the takedown attempt and he eventually gets it, landing in Diaz's guard.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Vieira drops back looking for a leg! Diaz is in trouble here! The fighters roll with the hold and Diaz manages to kick Vieira off! Vieira jumps back into Diaz's guard. Diaz working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Vieira doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Vieira manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem. Diaz keeping moving, preventing Vieira from controlling successfully. Vieira gets to his feet. Diaz looking to butt scoot but the ref puts an end to that. On your feet son! Diaz throws a series of punches but Vieira moves out of range. Vieira darts in and lands a nice takedown into half guard. The crowd are loving this. Great action here. Diaz looking for submissions off his back. Diaz is looking to escape.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Vieira works his way into full mount! Vieira is going oldschool here, as he tries to force Diaz to tap using a forearm choke. This isn't 1993 though, so Diaz shrugs it off. Vieira working the ground and pound effectively.
Diaz tries to get back to half guard but can't. Vieira working Diaz over with strikes here. Vieira lands an elbow that was bordering on illegal but the referee lets it go with a warning. Vieira connects with a couple of good shots from mount.
Diaz is writhing around trying to get back to his feet.
That's four minutes gone in the round. The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action. Vieira looking to ground and pound his opponent to a finish here.
Diaz wants to control but Vieira is having none of it. Vieira is in the full mount, landing strikes. Diaz's corner are shouting for him to stand up but that's bad cornering - how is he meant to stand up when he's mounted? He should be looking to improve his position on the ground before trying to stand back up. Diaz is in all sorts of trouble here.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Vieira landing punches. Vieira is landing with some decent strikes but Diaz is trying to advance his position so the referee is letting the fight continue. Vieira postures up and cracks his opponent a couple of times before moving back into close ground control. Diaz looks a forlorn figure.
Diaz is trying to stand up. The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end. Diaz tries to hold on but Vieira pushes him away. Vieira is working for a guillotine from mount but Diaz frees his head quite easily.

Vin Vieira dominated that round. The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action!
Diaz fails with the takedown and Vieira counters with a nice double leg into half guard. The referee walks around the fighters to get a better view of the action. Vieira lands a nice short elbow. Vieira prevents Diaz from standing back up.
Vieira is nestled in close to Diaz, controlling him well. He's worked in a nice elbow to the side of the head as well, for good measure. Vieira lands with an elbow from half guard - that looked like it hurt. Diaz is trying to control but can't.
Vieira passes the half guard and he's now in mount! Big trouble for Diaz! Diaz is working to get back to half guard.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here. Vieira has hold of Diaz's left arm, perhaps looking for a submission. The two fighters tussle over control of the isolated limb and Diaz manages to get his arm back to his side and away from danger.

Vieira wants to work for a kimura but he's foiled early by Diaz, who protects the arm well. Diaz wants to control but Vieira postures up. Vieira is trying hard to land a takedown here. Diaz sprawls well and keeps this one on the feet. Vieira darts in and clinches Diaz up against the cage. Vieira pulls guard effortlessly. Vieira seems keen to control Diaz's posture. Diaz decides he's had enough of playing guard and decides to stand. Come on Vieira, up you get! Both fighters are breathing heavily. Diaz gets taken down but at least he's managed to land in guard.
That's one minute gone in the round. Diaz has momentary wrist control but Vieira slips an elbow through the middle. Vieira has to be careful here, sitting in the guard of a superior BJJ player. Diaz keeping moving, preventing Vieira from controlling successfully. Diaz utilising some decent striking defenses from the guard, preventing the ground and pound. Vieira scoring with some ground and pound. Vieira looking to pass the guard. Vieira wants to control from the top but Diaz keeps moving.
Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up. Diaz misses with a combination
and Vieira counters with a nice double leg into guard. Diaz working for a triangle but Vieira defends it easily.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Vieira pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. Diaz is keeping the position for now. Vieira trying to control but Diaz is working from the bottom. Vieira connects with a couple of short punches. Vieira is really dominating this fight. Is there anything that Diaz can do to turn this around? Vieira slips effortlessly into side control - very nice. Diaz takes a couple of big shots there - the referee warns him that he has to defend himself better. Vieira is in a dominant position here, looking for a kimura. Diaz looks calm but he's in trouble here. Vieira gets his leg over his opponent's head and yanks on the arm. Diaz is tapping like a morse code operator on the titanic! SOS! SOS! Vieira lets go of the hold and Diaz can pop his arm back in it's socket.
