PBP Commentary |
Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Maxwell Caldeira (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Martin Keown (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Chooooooooon! I think Caldeira might be my favorite fighter, now he's come out to under the bridge- red hot chili peppers. Over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
2 - 3 - 0, fighting out of New York, Maxwell Caldeira! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of New York, Martin Keown! The judges for this bout are Reed Andrews, Lou da Vinci and John Roberts.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Caldeira tries to clinch up but Keown circles away and keeps his distance. Keown throws a wild combination but nothing lands. Caldeira shoots in and bounces Keown off the cage to secure the takedown into guard. Keown has momentary wrist control but Caldeira slips an elbow through the middle. Caldeira looking to control the position here, rather than advance. Keown is looking to stand back up... there's a bit of a scramble and Caldeira dives into side control.
Caldeira postures up a little and throws a couple of hammerfists but they don't connect properly.
Caldeira could do with loosing a few pounds - he looks very soft around the mid section, to put it politely. Caldeira moving around in side mount but really he's just happy to control for now. Caldeira has controlled the position for a good 20 seconds, which will no doubt be starting to frustrate his opponent. Caldeira has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.
That's one minute gone in the round. Caldeira prevents Keown from escaping the position. Caldeira decides to stand back up. Caldeira lands a kick to the ribs of his opponent. Nice work there - in and out in a flash.
Keown looks gassed! Keown gets caught on his heels momentarily as he allows Caldeira to score an easy takedown into full guard. Caldeira stops Keown from standing up. We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Keown can do anything to dispel that myth.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Caldeira forces his way into half guard. Caldeira decides to stand and escape the position. Caldeira scores a trip takedown into side control. Nice. Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show! Caldeira taking a breather here.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Keown tries to get back to his feet but has found himself mounted instead. Damn, that's gotta suck. Caldeira scoring with some good ground and pound from mount here. Will he manage to finish Keown?
Caldeira controlling the pace for now. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Caldeira fakes a shot to the body and cracks his opponent in the head. Nice ground and pound there!
Caldeira takes a little breather and maintains the position. The referee will be looking for him to stay active from such a dominant position though. Keown has given up his back, trying to stand up. Not clever.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Caldeira lands a punch to the side of the head from the back. Caldeira controls the position. Keown is trying to get back to his feet but he's not managed it yet. Caldeira slows the pace down here. Having a little breather whilst he's in a dominant position, looking to rest and regain some energy, ready to go for the finish.
Caldeira connects with a big shot to the side of Keown's head.
Keown fending off the submission attempt from Caldeira. The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end. Keown controlling the position well but he knows he's in a bad position. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
Maxwell Caldeira dominated that round. The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action!
Caldeira shoots in for a takedown and gets it. Oh and he's advanced to full mount straight away. Caldeira scores with a couple of good head shots there.
Keown is not a happy chappy… he wants out of there.
Caldeira has hold of Keown's left arm, perhaps looking for a submission. The two fighters tussle over control of the isolated limb and Keown manages to get his arm back to his side and away from danger.

Caldeira landing shots from mount. Caldeira controlling from mount. Keown is breathing heavily. Keown has given up his back here. Will Caldeira look for the submission or keep pounding away?
That's one minute gone in the round. Caldeira scores with strikes from the back.
Good control from Caldeira. Oooh a big shot gets through from Caldeira. Many more shots like that and the referee will have to think about stepping in!
Caldeira working for the choke. Caldeira really has the hooks in deep now - there seems like no escape for Keown.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Keown is displaying good submission defense - not really looking in danger of submitting to the rear naked choke at the moment. That could change in an instant of course if Caldeira gets his way!
Keown is trying to get back to his feet but Caldeira has full control of the position and if anything, Keown has just worked his way into a worse spot. Keown manages to escape to his feet. Caldeira tries a head kick but it misses.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Caldeira closes the distance, clinches up and gets a nice trip takedown into side control. Very smooth. Caldeira moving around in side mount but really he's just happy to control for now. Keown prevents Caldeira from improving position. Keown is looking to get back to his feet here but Caldeira is keeping cool and he's managed to take Keown's back. Caldeira lands a shot to the head.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Keown controlling the position well but he knows he's in a bad position. Keown is being controlled on the ground here - he must escape this position otherwise surely the end is near.
Caldeira lands with a nice looking elbow that stuns Keown.
Caldeira keeps control of the position easily here as Keown tries to buck him off.
Keown is trying to stand back up. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
Maxwell Caldeira dominated that second round. The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business. So, we enter the final round. Let's see if either fighter can bring us a finish, or whether we're going to the judges scorecards.
Keown gets caught flat footed, as Caldeira shoots in with a quick takedown into guard. Caldeira controlling from the guard. I say controlling but really, he's stalling.
The referee decides to stand the fighters back up, due to lack of activity on the part of Maxwell Caldeira. Caldeira gets a clinch. Keown takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired. Caldeira jumps into guard, dragging Keown to the mat.
That's one minute gone in the round. Keown throwing shots from guard but he's hitting more mat than opponent. Keown being controlled here momentarily. Keown thows a big elbow that misses. Keown throwing strikes but missing. Keown throwing elbows and punches but not connecting, as Caldeira works some decent striking defense from the bottom. Caldeira seems keen to control Keown's posture. Keown throws a strike but Caldeira rolls with it and manages to sweep. Now he's in guard on top. Caldeira controlling from the guard. I say controlling but really, he's stalling.
That's two minutes gone in the round. The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action. Caldeira prevents Keown from getting back to his feet. Caldeira is trying to work a guillotine from the top, or something like that? Don't know how he thinks he's going to get a finish from there. Caldeira trying to control but Keown is working from the bottom. Keown is trying to stand up but he's not managed so far.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Keown is looking to stand back up but Caldeira counters by passing into half guard. Oops... bit sloppy there by Keown. Keown is looking to escape. Caldeira in half guard on the top. He's looking for a kimura... He's got it locked and he's managed to free his trapped foot. Keown tries to escape but it's on too tight and he has to tap! Great BJJ skills there from Caldeira!
