Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 4 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Dustin Johnson!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 5 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Bovver Meerten!
The judges for this bout are Jack Bonds, and Timothy Bukovac.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Excellent takedown into side control there by Johnson.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Johnson throwing strikes but missing, from side control.
Meerten wants to get back to his feet.

Johnson tries for an arm triangle. That looks pretty tight to me. Is this one over!?! Possibly, maybe, no Johnson has let go of the choke. Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought!
Johnson is trying to move to mount but Meerten reverses beautifully and ends up in Johnson's guard.

Johnson has an omoplata and is looking to use it perhaps as a submission or perhaps to transition. Meerten is in a bit of discomfort here, but he's managed to free himself and has dived into side control! That didn't work out too well for Johnson.

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.

Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up.

Meerten slaps away a takedown attempt from Johnson, before circling back to the center of the mat.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!

Johnson shoots in for a takedown! He's got it and he's managed to land in full mount! That's better than Johnson was expecting from the takedown attempt, I'm sure!

Johnson takes a body punch that cleary hurt but he's trying not to show any weakness.
Meerten throws a head kick that looked like it stung.


It looks like Dustin Johnson has been cut.
Meerten leaves Johnson with his face pressed against the mat as he sprawls beautifully, defending against a solid takedown attempt.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
Jab, cross, leg kick. Nice combination by Meerten!

Meerten closes the distance and presses his opponent up against the cage.

Meerten gets double underhooks and manages to take the fight to the ground.
Meerten stopping the sweep attempt from Johnson.
Johnson wants to control but instead he gets his guard passed and Meerten is now in half guard.

Johnson gets back to full guard.

Johnson is working an open guard so Meerten takes the opportunity to get back to his feet.

Meerten gets in close and instigates a clinch.
Johnson gets double underhooks to prevent a takedown attempt from Meerten.

Meerten jumps guard and drags Johnson to the mat. He's obviously going to be looking for submissions off his back.
Johnson stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Meerten swivels though and keeps the full guard.

Johnson looking to sit in guard and control but Meerten gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top.

Meerten lands a nice shot whilst sitting in his opponent's guard.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Meerten slips nicely into half guard.

Johnson moves his hips nicely and gets into full guard.

Meerten avoids a guillotine attempt easily.
Johnson can't keep his opponent in guard - Meerten advances to half guard, no doubt looking to mount.

Johnson is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.

The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
The two fighters exchange a few words. I couldn't hear what they were saying but maybe it's more fun if you make it up yourself. Meerten connects with a nice short shot to Johnson's temple.

Bovver Meerten showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.

The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action! The crowd applaud as we get ready to start the final round!


Meerten delivers a nice body kick.
Meerten defends well against a solid takedown attempt from Johnson.
Meerten throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle.
Bovver Meerten seems to be getting the better of the standup.

Meerten fakes with an overhand right and moves in to clinch with Johnson, pushing him back against the cage.

Meerten turns his hips and lands a very nice judo throw into side control!
Both fighters are breathing heavily.
Johnson is looking to regain half guard here but Meerten keeps moving and retains side control.
Meerten wants to lay and pray for a moment but Johnson keeps working.

Meerten is looking for a kimura. He might have it! No, Johnson has escaped the position, nice work there.
Johnson gets one leg under and gets the fight to half guard.
Meerten moves into full mount! Johnson won't be happy about that!

The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.

Bovver Meerten comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
Well Meerten has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
