PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Gus Pappas (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Jacob Silva (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Both these guys have really solid chins. Will we see a standup war or will they both decide that a knockout is unlikely and try to win the fight elsewhere?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 12 - 9 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Gus Pappas!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Jacob Silva!
The judges for this bout are Tiny Johnson, Daniel Franklin and Frank Dennis.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Pappas wants to slow Silva down by chopping away at his legs.
Pappas misses the shot to the body.
Silva closes the distance and clinches up with Pappas, looking for a takedown. Silva pushes Pappas against the cage but Pappas circles to the side and manages to break the clinch.
Silva takes a shot right to the bread basket.
Silva looks for a takedown here. Will he get it? Pappas is fending him off so far but Silva persists. Nope, Pappas circles away and we're back to standing.
No luck with that takedown attempt from Silva.
Gus Pappas has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Jacob Silva.
Pappas throws the left hand but Silva avoids the punch easily.
Pappas swats away the attempt to clinch by Silva.
Silva slips a straight right by Pappas.
Silva fails with an attempt to clinch.

Pappas closes the distance and clinches.

Pappas's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does.
Pappas throws a right and a left that Silva avoids nicely.
Pappas loads up on a big right hand but Silva slips the punch.
A shot to the liver by Pappas. Beautiful body shot.
Silva looks gassed!

Pappas shoots in and gets a takedown into half guard. Pappas showed some decent athleticism there.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.
Pappas working over Silva with some ground and pound. Silva looks like he wants out of this position, which is understandable.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Pappas seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but Silva does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back.
Silva has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Pappas is working away from the top position though.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
Silva bobs and weaves well there to avoid the strikes.

Pappas shoots in for a takedown! He's got it and he's managed to land in full mount! That's better than Pappas was expecting from the takedown attempt, I'm sure!

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Pappas postures up and cracks his opponent a couple of times before moving back into close ground control. Silva looks a forlorn figure.
Pappas scoring with strikes but Silva is staying in there.
Silva tries to hold on but Pappas pushes him away.
Pappas connects with a couple of good shots from mount.
Pappas throwing sloppy strikes here. Perhaps if he tightened up his striking from such a dominant position, he'd be able to finish easier.

Silva takes a big shot to the head but keeps on trying to improve his position.
This has been an exciting period of action!
Pappas trying to control but Silva is having none of it.
Silva tries to reverse the position but Pappas maintains control.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Silva is bucking up trying to escape but Pappas cracks him with another couple of good strikes.
Pappas lands a big shot to the head and Silva winces in pain. He's tapped out due to strikes!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 3:23 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (Strikes). Gus Pappas!
