The judges for this bout are Mauricio Rocha, Alexandre Firmino and Edson Gomes.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
A punch combination from Bertozzi misses.
Maia moves in looking to clinch but Bertozzi pushes him off.
Maia delivers a nice body kick.
Maia is trying hard to land a takedown here. Bertozzi sprawls well and keeps this one on the feet.
Maia should think about turning a few of those tyres round his middle into muscle if he wants people to take him seriously as an athlete.
Maia misses with a takedown attempt - Bertozzi sprawls well and throws a nice strike on the way out which just misses.
Maia comes forward and lands a shot to the body, then darts back out of range.
Bertozzi moves out of range of the body kick.
Maia is looking to clinch but Bertozzi is avoiding it.

Bertozzi displays good takedown defense there as he swats away a double leg from Maia.

and Maia counters with a left and a right that stings Bertozzi.
Bertozzi is looking for a takedown here. He's shot in and has managed to get it, finishing up in Maia's half guard.
Maia throws a strike from the bottom but Bertozzi passes into side control!

Maia tries to get back to half guard but can't.

Bertozzi has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.
Maia can't do much from the bottom here.

Bertozzi is moving around in side control but his primary objective seems to be to maintain the position.
Maia is not content to let Bertozzi control the position.
Maia really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Bertozzi. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.
Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up.
Bertozzi throws a sloppy head kick and Maia moves out of range easily.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.
Bertozzi swats away the attempt to clinch by Maia.
Bertozzi closes the distance and presses his opponent up against the cage.
Bertozzi has picked Maia up - he's going for a ride! Bertozzi dumps his opponent to the mat with a thud and settles into half guard.

Bertozzi maintaining the dominant position here and is working for a kimura. He's locked it up! Maia could be in real trouble here! He's trying to wriggle out but Bertozzi has cracked it and Maia is screaming in pain - he's tapped out! Great finish by Bertozzi!
