PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Demian Maia (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Efrain Vasquez (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Maia's ring entrance music is that housewives' favourite, I got a Feeling. We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.

The judges for this bout are Felipe Paraventi, Seu Braga and Luis Engracia.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Vasquez rushes forward with a series of wild hooks but Maia moves out of range and avoids them all easily.
Maia avoids the head kick by Vasquez.

Maia shoots in and bounces Vasquez off the cage to secure the takedown into guard.

Maia drops back looking for a heel hook - he quickly realises he's not going to get it but Vasquez manages to dive on top of him before he can escape and now Maia has Vasquez in his guard.
Maia is trying to control the position but Vasquez postures up.

Maia looking for submissions off his back, moving his hips, looking for an opening.
Vasquez must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.

Vasquez darts in and lands a nice takedown into half guard.

Maia escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Vasquez gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.
Vasquez works over Maia with some ground and pound from guard.

Maia is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle.

Maia has an omoplata and is looking to use it perhaps as a submission or perhaps to transition. Vasquez is in a bit of discomfort here, but he's managed to free himself and has dived into side control! That didn't work out too well for Maia.

Vasquez decides to stand up, so the ref orders Maia to his feet.
Vasquez misses with a head kick.

Vasquez tries to clinch up but Maia circles away and keeps his distance.

and Maia counters with a shoot takedown. Vasquez fights it but they end up in guard.

Maia drops back looking for a heel hook - he quickly realises he's not going to get it but Vasquez manages to dive on top of him before he can escape and now Maia has Vasquez in his guard.

Maia is working for an escape here. He's hooked one of Vasquez's legs and he's managed to sneak out and take Vasquez's back!

Maia really has the hooks in deep now - there seems like no escape for Vasquez.

This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

Vasquez has his takedown stuffed

and Maia counters with a nice shoot takedown that brings the fighters to the ground.

Maia drops back looking for a submission - "I'm sorry sir, but I'm gunna break your leg" says Maia as he cranks on the unfortunate limb! Vasquez screams and taps out before any major damage is done! Don't mess with Maia! Nice submission victory there!
