Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Steve Kulli (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Tomi Karttunen (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Tomi Karttunen is the more experienced fighter, so let's see if that makes a difference tonight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Steve Kulli!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Tomi Karttunen!

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Karttunen gets taken down but at least he's managed to land in guard.
Karttunen keeping full guard, as Kulli tries to pass.

Karttunen has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Kulli can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.
Karttunen looking for a sweep. Not yet Karttunen, not yet.
Kulli postures up.

That's one minute gone in the round.

Karttunen is looking for a triangle but Kulli pushes his legs off easily.
Karttunen wants to sweep here but Kulli controlling him for the moment.

Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up.
Karttunen tries for a takedown but Kulli circles away easily

and Kulli counters with a nice double leg into side control. Karttunen won't be happy with that.
Karttunen is putting a lot of effort into getting back to his feet here.
Karttunen tries to get back to half guard but can't.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Karttunen manages to work his way to half guard, despite Kulli's best efforts.
Karttunen looks gassed!
Karttunen gets back to full guard.
Kulli could do with loosing a few pounds - he looks very soft around the mid section, to put it politely.
Karttunen bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Kulli's guard.
Kulli working a defensive guard but Karttunen manages to pass into side control anyway.
What's Kulli going to do here then? He's in a bit of a pickle.
Kulli is not content to let Karttunen control the position.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily.
Kulli regains half guard there - taking advantage of Karttunen's attempt to lay and pray for a moment.
Kulli is trying is best to control the position here.
Kulli keeping his head moving to avoid the ground and pound.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.
Karttunen wants to stand but his hand is trapped. Kulli uses the opportunity to regain full guard.

Kulli isolates an arm and boxes in a triangle. Karttunen stacks Kulli on his neck as he steps over and passes to the side. He's now in a much more dominant position where he can look to do some serious damage. Nice move by Karttunen!
Kulli is looking to reverse the position.
Kulli stuck in half guard on the bottom here.
Kulli sneaks back into half guard.
Kulli moves his hips nicely and gets into full guard.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Steve Kulli dominated that round.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.



Karttunen gets caught flat footed, as Kulli shoots in with a quick takedown into guard.
Kulli stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Karttunen swivels though and keeps the full guard.
Kulli won't allow Karttunen to get back to his feet.
Kulli advances to half guard.
Karttunen has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Kulli is working away from the top position though.
Kulli is working hard to pass the guard. He's done it - he's now in full mount! Trouble for Karttunen!
Karttunen regains half guard.
Well, if Kulli is going to just lie there, perhaps we should talk about what we're having for dinner tonight… I'm having a ham and pineapple pizza… Yum. Can't wait.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

Kulli wants to control but Karttunen is keeping him busy.
Karttunen is looking to improve his position.
Karttunen controlling the position well.
Karttunen wants to get back to his feet.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
Karttunen trying to control here.
Karttunen tries to roll over but Kulli keeps him under control.

Kulli is working for a submission here. He's got hold of the far side arm and he's looking for a kimura. He's cranking on the arm and he's got it! Karttunen is tapping out! Ouch, that looked like it hurt!
