PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Everton Klaus (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Cruz Jefferson (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Everton Klaus!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Cruz Jefferson!
The judges for this bout are Paulo Santos, Thiago Cunha and Daniel Cesar.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Jefferson tries to keep at a distance but Klaus has taken the fight into the clinch.
Jefferson lands a nice elbow.


It looks like Everton Klaus has been cut.
Klaus tries to pull guard but Jefferson won't allow it.
Jefferson lands an elbow that stopped Klaus in his tracks for a moment.
Klaus swings wildly with an uppercut but Jefferson uses good head movement to avoid it.
Klaus wants to break the clinch but can't.
Jefferson has Klaus pressed against the cage, preventing Klaus from circling away and getting back to striking at range.
Jefferson is pressed up against the cage. Klaus has hold of a leg and is looking to drag Jefferson down to the mat. Jefferson avoids the attempt though and has circled away. We're back to striking at a distance.

Klaus fakes with an overhand right and moves in to clinch with Jefferson, pushing him back against the cage.
Jefferson lands a glancing elbow in the clinch.

Klaus drags the fight down to the ground.

Klaus uses the cage to get back to his feet.
Jefferson throws a sloppy head kick and Klaus moves out of range easily.

and Klaus counters into the clinch. Nicely done.

Klaus manages to pull guard. Let's see whether he can land a sub off his back.
Klaus manages to sweep nicely, so he's now on top. Jefferson manages to get himself to full guard.

Klaus is trying a forearm choke… I don't think that's going to do much at this level of the game.
Klaus is breathing heavily.
Jefferson wants to get back to his feet.

The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.
Jefferson is looking to get back to is feet but Klaus passes into side control.
Jefferson really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Klaus. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.

Klaus tries for an arm triangle. That looks pretty tight to me. Is this one over!?! Possibly, maybe, no Klaus has let go of the choke. Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought!
Jefferson wants to escape from the position here - easier said than done!

A bit of a lull in the action. I'm sure it will pick up again soon... even if the ref has to physically pick them up and put them back on their feet.
Jefferson is pushing Klaus's head away, looking to escape. Klaus manages to hold on to the position though.

Klaus decides to take the fight back to the feet.
Jefferson tries to clinch up

and Klaus counters with a shoot takedown. Jefferson fights it but they end up in guard.

Klaus drops back looking for a leg! Jefferson is in trouble here! The fighters roll with the hold and Jefferson manages to kick Klaus off! Klaus jumps back into Jefferson's guard.
Klaus is looking to stand up but Jefferson won't let him.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Jefferson is trying to stand up but he's not managed so far.
Klaus trying to control but Jefferson is working from the bottom.
Jefferson is looking to stand back up... there's a bit of a scramble and Klaus dives into side control.
Jefferson is pushing Klaus's head away, looking to escape. Klaus manages to hold on to the position though.

It looks like we're going to have a standup here. Neither fighter is doing enough on the ground.
Jefferson tries to clinch but Klaus is having none of it.
Klaus looks for a takedown here. Will he get it? Jefferson is fending him off so far but Klaus persists. Nope, Jefferson circles away and we're back to standing.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Jefferson tries a switch kick but it misses it's target.
Nice sprawl there from Jefferson as Klaus shoots in.
Cruz Jefferson seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Klaus takes a head kick and keeps coming.
Jefferson clinches but Klaus breaks the clinch

and Klaus counters with a nice double leg into half guard.
Klaus moves into full mount! Jefferson won't be happy about that!
Jefferson tries to buck Klaus off but he can't manage it.

Jefferson is trying to stand.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

Klaus with shots to the head and body - Jefferson looks very uncomfortable down there.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.
Jefferson really wants to buck Klaus off and get back to his feet.

Klaus wants to finish this one by submission but Jefferson is holding onto his waist, trying to prevent any attacks from Klaus.
Klaus wants to control the pace but Jefferson is squirming around nicely.
Jefferson wants to use the cage to get back to his feet here.
Klaus can't quite control the action as he would like just now, as Jefferson is looking to escape.
Jefferson is really trying hard to get back to his feet.

Klaus looks like he's working for a submission but he's not found anything just yet.
Klaus won't let Jefferson get back to his feet... He wants to keep the fight where it is for now.
Jefferson is in a horrible position here. Klaus smacks him with another shot as he tries to escape the position.

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.
Jefferson is trying to get to the cage to help him get back to his feet.
Klaus breaks from Jefferson's wrist control and lands an elbow.
Klaus lands a big shot there that rocks Jefferson but he's holding on and managing to survive for now.
Klaus connects with a couple of good shots from mount.

Klaus throws some wild stikes that Jefferson manages to avoid easily.
Jefferson's corner are shouting for him to stand up but that's bad cornering - how is he meant to stand up when he's mounted? He should be looking to improve his position on the ground before trying to stand back up.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.

That's time! Klaus's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight. And we move into the final round!


Jefferson thuds his shin into the meat of Klaus's side.
Ooooh, nice body kick lands from Jefferson. Klaus shrugs it off though.
Jefferson closes the distance looking to clinch

and Klaus counters with a nice double leg into side control. Jefferson won't be happy with that.

Everton Klaus overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.
Klaus connects with a decent looking elbow from side control that caused Jefferson some visible discomfort.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.

Jefferson is wriggling around trying to escape but Klaus has hooked up a rear naked choke! Is it over??? Is it... you're damn right it is! Jefferson taps out and Klaus picks up the big win! Great work there by Klaus!
