0 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Manuel dos Reis Machado! The judges for this bout are Damien Edna, Skip Squint and Hugh Johnson.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Peters gets a takedown into half guard. Peters trying to mount his opponent but Reis Machado defends it. Peters takes a deep breath and rests his weight momentarily on top of his opponent, to control the position. Peters throwing shots but Reis Machado is blocking nicely. Peters passes the half guard and he's now in mount! Big trouble for Reis Machado! Peters working away from the top, dropping strikes. Peters landing strikes from the mount. Peters working Reis Machado over with strikes here. Peters content just to control the position here.
That's one minute gone in the round. Reis Machado really trying hard to get back to half guard here.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Peters looking to control and managing it successfully. Reis Machado in a bad spot here, taking shots to the head. Peters landing strikes from the mount and Reis Machado is in trouble! Peters tucks in and makes sure he doesn't lose the dominant position.

The referee stands the fighters back up. Roy Peters just wasn't active enough from the dominant position. Reis Machado gets taken down but at least he's managed to land in guard.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Peters sitting in guard, not really doing much. Peters passes Reis Machado's right leg, so he's now in half guard. Reis Machado is looking for a sweep. Peters is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position. Reis Machado looks gassed! Peters stalling. Peters has controlled the position for a good 20 seconds, which will no doubt be starting to frustrate his opponent. Peters uses his free foot to push down on Reis Machado's thigh. Eventually he works his other foot free and he's advanced to mount - this is trouble for Reis Machado. Peters controlling his opponent.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Reis Machado is squirming around, avoiding Peters's attempts to control the action. Peters controlling his opponent. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Peters avoids the attempt from Reis Machado to control. A nice elbow there by Peters. Reis Machado manages to regain half guard. Good work. The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end. Reis Machado is holding on to half guard well. Reis Machado works his way to full guard. Good work. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
Roy Peters dominated that round. The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.
Peters feints and as Reis Machado raises his hands in defense, Peters changes levels and drives through with a takedown into guard. Reis Machado is working an open guard so Peters takes the opportunity to get back to his feet. Reis Machado lands a kick to the ribs of his opponent. Nice work there - in and out in a flash.
Reis Machado tries to clinch up but Peters circles away and keeps his distance. Peters looks for a takedown. He's got it. We're now in half guard. Reis Machado is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though. Reis Machado on the receiving end of some nice ground and pound. Peters perhaps working for something from half guard, or maybe not. It looks like he's just sitting there. Roy Peters overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far. Reis Machado is looking for a sweep. Peters is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position. Peters scores with a couple of good hammerfists. Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here. Peters content to control rather than advance. Peters tries to pass the half guard into mount. Reis Machado knows what he's doing though and prevents the attempt.

He'll need to remain active if he doesn't want to see the fight stood back up. Peters tries to free his leg and advance position but Reis Machado is retaining full guard. Peters sitting in guard here, content to control. Reis Machado is working an open guard so Peters takes the opportunity to get back to his feet. Reis Machado misses with a takedown attempt so Peters counters with a double leg into guard. Good agility.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Peters controls the pace of the fight for a moment. Peters makes a bit of distance and scores with some ground and pound, still in guard. Peters showing good wrestling skills to control the position.
The referee stands the fighters back up. Roy Peters just wasn't active enough from the dominant position. Peters looks for a takedown. He's got it. We're now in half guard. Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show! Peters is taking a breather. Reis Machado says something to him but it's hard to make out. Perhaps he's telling him to get on with it and actually do something. Reis Machado tries to get to full guard but Peters has control of the leg. Reis Machado wants to control but Peters is keeping busy and won't allow it.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Peters content to sit in half guard and control for a moment. Peters decides to stand up. Peters darts in and clinches Reis Machado up against the cage. Peters manages to break the clinch.
Peters throws a nice looking combination but Reis Machado bobs and weaves to avoid any damage. No luck for Peters with that takedown attempt. Jab, cross, leg kick. Nice combination by Reis Machado!
Reis Machado tries for a takedown but Peters circles away easily and Peters counters with a driving takedown into guard. Nice work there by Peters. Peters stands up from guard. Let's bang! Roy Peters is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things. Reis Machado has his takedown stuffed and Peters counters with a nice double leg into guard. Roy Peters has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Manuel dos Reis Machado.
That's four minutes gone in the round. This has been an exciting period of action! Peters is just sitting in guard, looking to avoid any submissions. Peters advances to half guard. Reis Machado wants to get back to his feet.

Peters shoots in for a takedown and gets it. Let's see what he's got on the mat. Peters with a couple of shots to the head there. Not particularly brutal. Peters stays in close to Reis Machado's body and controls the position. Peters postures up and scores with a shot to the body and a follow up elbow to the head. Peters is really dominating this fight. Is there anything that Reis Machado can do to turn this around? Peters controlling from the top position. Reis Machado has his feet on Peters's hips. He pushes off and gets to his feet. Nice work. Peters gets the takedown into side control. Peters passes to full mount! That's big trouble for Reis Machado! Peters controlling his opponent. Both fighters are breathing heavily.
That's one minute gone in the round. Peters seems to have a rather negative gameplan on the ground. He seems keen to just score the takedown and hold down Reis Machado for as long as he can get away with.

Peters remains in side control and seems content to stay there. It's a versatile position from which he can work both strikes and submissions, whilst maintaining that control, so maybe he'll sit here for a while. Reis Machado tries to work a leg under to get back to half guard but Peters wriggles his own leg back out and remains in side control. Peters just content to control the position. Peters tries for a kimura but Reis Machado is defending well. Peters is pausing for a moment. What's he doing? It looks like he's clearing his nose. Oh dude! He's shot a load of snot all down Reis Machado's shoulder. That is not cool. Peters in side control lands a nice looking series of punches and elbows. Peters avoids the strikes from the bottom by Reis Machado.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Reis Machado tries to improve position but can't. Peters lands some shots froms side control. Reis Machado takes a couple of big shots there - the referee warns him that he has to defend himself better. Reis Machado is sneaking out the side here. He's bucked Peters off and has taken his back! Peters is in bad spot here.

And that's the end of the fight! Roy Peters showed his dominance in that final round. Well I reckon that's a shut out for Peters, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
