PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between MJ Jakovina (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Iqbal Al Mamood (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Al Mamood is bouncing up and down as he enters the arena, backed by Mamute Pequenino. I don't know about you partner, but I'm pumped for this one!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 2 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, MJ Jakovina!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 4 - 5 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Iqbal Al Mamood!
The judges for this bout are Winston Howard, John Mangel and Steve Erwin.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Jakovina fails to land with the punch combination there - jab, cross, hook, miss, miss, miss.
Both fighters are looking to counter, which isn't making for the most exciting fight in the world.
Al Mamood showing good head movement there, avoiding the strikes from Jakovina.
Jakovina tries to land with a swinging hook to the body but Al Mamood was well out of range. Poor timing from Jakovina.
Jakovina misses with a series of wild punches.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Al Mamood misses with a few strikes there.

Jakovina swings wildly with a couple of big hooks
and Al Mamood counters with a lovely shot to the body.
Jakovina uses some good footwork to avoid the body shot by Al Mamood.

Al Mamood tries to shoot in for a takedown. He's got hold of a leg but Jakovina swivels and escapes.

A slow jab from Jakovina misses its intended target.
Al Mamood moves out of range as Jakovina strikes.
Jakovina does a little shimmy and throws a leg kick. The leg kick missed by a considerable margin though, making him look a little bit silly for doing the shimmy.

and Al Mamood decides to take the opportunity to score a takedown. He's landed in Jakovina's guard.
Al Mamood advances position into side control!
Al Mamood tries to advance to mount but can't.
Jakovina knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Al Mamood on the ground.

It looks like we're going to have a standup here. Neither fighter is doing enough on the ground.

and Jakovina counters with a series of strikes. Al Mamood will be more careful next time no doubt.

Iqbal Al Mamood dominated that round.
The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action!

A bone on bone clash there as Al Mamood blocks the leg kick.
MJ Jakovina is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.

Al Mamood fakes a head shot and lands one to the body.

Jakovina throws a jab but it's blocked by Al Mamood.

letting Al Mamood counter with a right hand.
Jakovina throws a series of punches but Al Mamood avoids them all with ease.
Jakovina throws a head kick that misses.
Jakovina ducks down and throws a hook to the body but Al Mamood moves away.

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.

Al Mamood closes the distance and gets a double leg, slamming Jakovina to the mat! Jakovina manages to get full guard.
Jakovina is trying to stand up but he's not managed so far.

Al Mamood is looking to work some ground and pound but Jakovina has wrist control.
Al Mamood tries to free his leg and advance position but Jakovina is retaining full guard.

Jakovina pushes Al Mamood off and scrambles back to his feet.
Al Mamood swings for the body but Jakovina moves out of range.

The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.
Al Mamood throws a hard body shot but it just misses.
Jakovina lunges in with swinging rights and lefts but Al Mamood circles away quickly and effectively.
Al Mamood swings away but doesn't land with a series of punches.
Jakovina throws a combination that misses
and Jakovina takes a counter punch right on the button for his troubles.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close second round but I would say that MJ Jakovina will probably get the nod.
The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action! This is the final round!

Jakovina throws a jab, cross combination which is slipped
and Al Mamood counters with a left to the body.
Jakovina fails to land with a series of punches.
Al Mamood takes a shot right to the liver - Bas would have been proud of that punch.
Jakovina throws a combination that misses
and Al Mamood counters with a nice body shot.
Al Mamood shoots in for a takedown but Jakovina shows good takedown defense.

A jab from Al Mamood finds it's way through Jakovina's defenses.

Al Mamood shoots in for a takedown! He's got it and he's managed to land in full mount! That's better than Al Mamood was expecting from the takedown attempt, I'm sure!
Al Mamood can't quite control the action as he would like just now, as Jakovina is looking to escape.
Jakovina is not a happy chappy… he wants out of there.

Al Mamood lands a nice shot to the head.
Al Mamood controlling the position easily from mount.
Al Mamood throwing sloppy strikes, which aren't doing any damage.
Al Mamood lands a heavy elbow.
Jakovina is bucking up trying to escape but Al Mamood cracks him with another couple of good strikes.

And that's the end of the fight!
Iqbal Al Mamood comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
I think Al Mamood has won this one but let's see whether the judges agree with me. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
