PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a super heavyweight MMA rules bout between James Gobbler (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Randy Ravage (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the super heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 5 - 0, fighting out of London, James Gobbler!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of London, Randy Ravage!
The judges for this bout are Sam Margolis, James Ackerman and Richard Clark.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Ravage fails with an attempt to clinch.
Ravage shoots in for a takedown but Gobbler shows good takedown defense there and keeps this one on the feet.
Gobbler shoots in for a takedown but doesn't get it.
Gobbler moves out of range of the body kick from Ravage.
Gobbler misses with a takedown attempt

and Ravage counters with a nice single leg takedown and he's in Gobbler's guard now.
Ravage wants to stand but Gobbler is controlling his posture from full guard.
Gobbler wants to sweep here but Ravage controlling him for the moment.
Gobbler is looking to get back to his feet but can't, whilst Ravage is controlling him.

Ravage is holding a leg here, probably looking for an ankle lock - he drops back and goes for it! Gobbler is in trouble! Is it all over??? No! Gobbler has escaped and now he's on top!

Gobbler advances position into side control!
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Ravage is not content to let Gobbler control the position.

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.
Ravage trying his best to control but Gobbler has mounted him.
Gobbler can't quite control the action as he would like just now, as Ravage is looking to escape.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Ravage is writhing around trying to get back to his feet.
Gobbler prevents Ravage from getting the reversal.
Gobbler cracks Ravage with a nasty head shot there - the crowd let out an audible gasp there, as the noise reverberated around the arena.
We're hearing some news coming in from back stage. It's official - Ravage has eaten all the pies!
Ravage is wriggling around trying to escape.
Ravage looks gassed!
Gobbler tries to stand up but he's trapped just for the moment.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Ravage is writhing around trying to get back to his feet.
The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult.
Ravage has given up his back. Will we see Gobbler going for some submissions?
Gobbler tries to keep control of the position but Ravage is staying busy.
I really don't envy Ravage right now.
The crowd hopeful of a finish here - Gobbler's supporters are on their feet, screaming for him to go for the rear naked choke.
Ravage is defending well here and trying to improve his position.

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.
Ravage trying to control the action but Gobbler just sinks the hooks in.

Gobbler is looking to finish the fight by rear naked choke. Ravage knows exactly what he's got planned though, so he's defending well. Maybe a few strikes would soften Ravage for a finish.
Gobbler is hanging on to Ravage's back as he tries to escape.
Ravage is persisting with the attempt to improve his position.

That was a close round but I would say that James Gobbler will probably get the nod.
That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business.


Ravage throws a solid leg kick but Gobbler takes the impact on his shin and smiles at Ravage.
Gobbler avoids the clinch attempt nicely.
Gobbler is trying hard to land a takedown here. Ravage sprawls well and keeps this one on the feet.
Ravage shoots for a takedown but Gobbler saw that one coming a mile off and avoided it easily.

Ravage decides to change it up a bit and drives through with a nice takedown into half guard.
Ravage stalling away here and it's allowed Gobbler to slip out his trapped foot and regain full guard.
Gobbler is trying to control the position but Ravage postures up.
Ravage must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

Ravage is looking to stand up but Gobbler won't let him.

My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer.

Ravage stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Gobbler swivels though and keeps the full guard.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
Ravage fails with a takedown attempt from distance.
Ravage misses with a jab and misses with a cross straight after too.
Ravage looks for a takedown here. Will he get it? Gobbler is fending him off so far but Ravage persists. Nope, Gobbler circles away and we're back to standing.
James Gobbler has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Randy Ravage.
Ravage tries to score a power double leg takedown but Gobbler sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten Ravage somewhat.
Ravage defends well against a solid takedown attempt from Gobbler.

Ravage gets the takedown into side control.
Ravage has knee on belly momentarily but Gobbler bucks him off and regains half guard.
Ravage is pressing down on Gobbler's thigh, looking to free his foot. Gobbler is holding on for now.
Gobbler looks like he's trying to stand up.

Ravage throwing shots but they're hitting the canvas more than the man.

Ravage is looking for a kimura here.
Ravage seems content to maintain position for now, rather than mounting any offense.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Randy Ravage showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action! This is the final round!



Gobbler gets caught on his heels momentarily as he allows Ravage to score an easy takedown into full guard.

Ravage is in a good position here but he's just trying to control... And he's not even managing to do that successfully.
Gobbler is looking to get back to his feet but can't, whilst Ravage is controlling him.
Ravage loading up with the ground and pound but he's missing more than he's landing in this flurry.

Ravage is intent on slowing down the pace of the fight, simply looking to control.

It looks like we're going to have a standup here. Neither fighter is doing enough on the ground.
Ravage wants to clinch up but Gobbler keeps it at a distance.
Ravage throws a leg kick but Gobbler sees it coming and checks it nicely.
A telegraphed takedown attempt from Gobbler is defended easily by Ravage.
Ravage throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Gobbler's waist but Gobbler gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Ravage off to one side.

Ravage doesn't manage to clinch there - Gobbler circles away.
A really sloppy takedown attempt there from Ravage.
Ravage lands a jab-cross combination.

and Gobbler counters by moving into the clinch. Good anticipation by Gobbler.

Ravage wants a takedown but no success here.
Ravage tries to pull guard but Gobbler won't allow it.
Ravage tries to land knees in the clinch but Gobbler avoids the damage to the body.

Ravage is trying to work out of this bad position, with his back against the cage.
Ravage is working for a takedown up against the cage. He can't get it on this occasion though.

Gobbler can't get the takedown.
Ravage tries to pull guard but Gobbler won't allow it.
Ravage jumps guard but his hands slip and he falls flat on his back. Well, he's made himself look a right mug there, as Gobbler walks away with a smile on his face. Ravage gets slowly back to his feet and shakes his head.
Ravage throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Gobbler's waist but Gobbler gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Ravage off to one side.
Left hook, right uppercut from Ravage.
Ravage tries to clinch but Gobbler is having none of it.
Gobbler throws a head kick but Ravage moves out of range.
Horrible takedown by Gobbler or perhaps it was just good defense by Ravage which made him look bad.
Ravage fails with a rather predictable takedown attempt.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Ravage keeps the fight on the outside.

And that's the end of the fight!
Randy Ravage comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
I think Ravage has won this one but let's see whether the judges agree with me. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
