PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Derek Safo (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Paul Holborn (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Safo comes into the arena with Black Star - Sway blaring out of the sound system. Over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Derek Safo!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Paul Holborn!
The judges for this bout are John Mangel, Summer Carpenter and Bruno Hogan.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Crunch! Holborn slams his shin into Safo's torso.
Holborn lunges in with swinging rights and lefts but Safo circles away quickly and effectively.

Safo moves into the clinch.
Safo digs a right hand into Holborn's ribs. Those have got to be taking their toll on Holborn's gas tank.
Safo keeps the fight in the clinch, despite Holborn's efforts to push away.
A real battle for position is taking place between these two warriors.
Safo lands a body shot in the clinch.
Safo using the Thai clinch to land knees to the body.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
Safo lands a left hand.
Holborn is trying to break the clinch but Safo is controlling him.
Safo trying to land knees to the body.

Holborn decides to pull guard.
Safo stands and throws Holborn's legs to the side, diving into side control.
Safo controls the position from side control.
Holborn tries to wriggle free to get back to his feet but he's given up his back! Oops.
Safo is looking cool and calm here, just waiting for a good opportunity to attack and finish the fight from this dominant position.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Safo avoiding Holborn 's attempts to control his hands.
Holborn wants to escape the position.
Holborn wants to control his opponent's hands but Safo gets his hands free.
A bit of a pause in the action here. Safo controlling the positon.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.
Holborn trying to control the position but Safo manages to sink in the hooks.
Holborn is trying to break free.
I would not like to be Holborn right now.
Safo has the hooks in. Holborn is trying to push off one leg but he has to do so cautiously to avoid being submitted.
What can Holborn do to escape this position? He's going to have to figure it out pretty quick if he wants to stay in the fight!

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Safo's ground tactics aren't going to win him many fans. Let's hope he's got fireworks for us if he gets back to his feet because he's not doing much on the ground.
Holborn can't escape the position.
A bit of a pause in the action here. Safo controlling the positon.
Holborn tries to escape but Safo has the hooks in and won't let him break free.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.
Safo doesn't have the hooks in and Holborn manages to turn into his guard.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up, due to lack of activity on the part of Derek Safo.
Safo connects with a lovely right hand, straight down the pipe.
Holborn fails with the takedown.
Safo lands with a cross to side of his opponent's head.
Holborn tries to clinch up but Safo circles away and keeps his distance.
Holborn pulls out of a head kick attempt.
Safo scores with a reasonable looking shot to the body. Holborn doesn't seem bothered though.
Holborn has his hands up protecting his head but a hook from Safo finds it's way round the side to connect with Holborn's head.
Holborn looks gassed!
Safo closes the distance and lands a one-two.
Paul Holborn seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

Safo clinches with his opponent.
A short right from Safo on the inside.
A short right hand to the side of the head by Safo.
Safo lands a hook to the body. It's hard to tell if that hurt Holborn or not.
Safo lands a shot to the body.
A right hand to the body from Safo.
Safo slows down the pace here.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Safo throws a blind hook that connects with the side of Holborns head.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Derek Safo dominated that round.
Well, the break between rounds is over. Let's get back to the scrappin!


Safo lands with a straight right. Holborn didn't see that one coming.
Paul Holborn is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
Holborn takes one on the button.
Safo throws a combination. Holborn tries to block but a couple of punches get through.

Safo lands a left and a right that send Holborn crashing to the mat, dazed. Safo thinks about following him to the mat but decides to wave him back up to his feet!


Holborn is rocked!
Safo lands a body shot.
Holborn is still on wobbly legs! Can Safo finish him?
This has been an exciting period of action!
Safo connects with a jab and follows up with a big overhand right! Oh that's hurt Holborn! He's out on his feet! Safo rushes in and drops Holborn with another big right hand, forcing the referee to stop the fight!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 0:18 of round 2, we have a winner by way of TKO (Punches). Derek Safo!
