PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Bob Baran (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Will Hill (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Baran comes to the cage accompanied by Beach Boys - Barbara Ann . We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Bob Baran!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Will Hill!
The judges for this bout are Bruno Hogan, Damien Edna and Winston Howard.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Good leg kick by Baran there. It's the ones that make that thud noise that hurt and that was an almighty thud.
Baran throws a quick inside leg kick.

Hill avoids a lazy jab quite easily.
Hill is looking to clinch but Baran is avoiding it.
Baran jabs away that one connects to the head of his opponent.

Hill drives through with a takedown into guard.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Baran is trying to control the position but Hill postures up.
Hill trying to control the position from guard on top but Baran is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
Baran is looking to get back to his feet but can't, whilst Hill is controlling him.
Baran keeping moving, preventing Hill from controlling successfully.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Baran wants to stand and escape but Hill is having none of it.
Baran can't do much from the bottom at the moment, as Hill controls the pace.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.

Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up.
Baran bobs and weaves and throws out a fast jab that snaps Hill's head backwards.
A chopping leg kick lands by Baran.
Hill misses with a double jab.
Hill misses with a takedown attempt - Baran sprawls well and throws a nice strike on the way out which just misses.

Hill shoots in and scores a nice double leg takedown into half guard.
Hill looks gassed!
Baran trying to hold on to Hill's head to control him but Hill postures up.

Hill is just content to waste time from the top position. Baran takes advantage of the situation and regains full guard.
Hill must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.
Baran bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Hill's guard.

Baran trying to control but Hill is working from the bottom.
Hill tries to land a sweep but no joy.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.
Baran wants to get up but he can't break Hill's closed guard. He needs to be careful trying to break the legs open, as he's open to submissions here.
Baran postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect.

Baran gets to his feet - Hill follows without any prompting.
Hill moves in looking to clinch but Baran pushes him off.
Nice defenses there by Hill.
A swing and a miss from Baran.
Hill throws a sloppy head kick and Baran moves out of range easily.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close round but I would say that Bob Baran will probably get the nod.

Hill throws a leg kick that is checked
and Baran counters with a straight right hand.
Baran uses decent footwork to sidestep a right hand from Hill.
Baran misses with a body shot.
Hill slips a jab and a cross from Baran.
Baran looks to score with a jab to the body but Hill is just out of range.

Hill looking to shoot here. He's gone for it and he's landed a takedown into mount! Oh, that's bad for Baran!
Hill trying to control but Baran is having none of it.
Baran is wriggling around trying to escape.

Hill goes for an armbar but he's not got it… Baran turns into him and now he's in Hill's guard.
Hill is breathing heavily.
Hill has a closed guard, preventing Baran from standing up.
Hill tries to land a sweep but no joy.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.

Hill is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle.
Hill utilising some decent striking defenses from the guard, preventing the ground and pound.
Hill looking to control.
Baran trying to land body shots but he keeps hitting the mat.
We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Hill can do anything to dispel that myth.
Hill avoiding any damage from the ground and pound.
Baran is standing up over Hill. Hill looks to escape but Baran dives into side control.
Baran tries to stand but Hill is controlling his head.

Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up.
Baran throws a jab, cross combination which is slipped

and Hill counters with a driving takedown into guard. Nice work there by Hill.
Baran keeping moving, preventing Hill from controlling successfully.

Baran looking for submissions from the bottom here. Moving his hips around, possibly looking for an armbar.
Hill passes easily into side control. Nice work.

Hill sitting in side control, looking to soften his opponent up with elbows and hammerfists but Baran is avoiding damage well and looking to escape the position.
Baran gets back to half guard.
Hill keeping composed on the top, looking to control the action.
Baran tries to get to full guard but Hill has control of the leg.
Baran is trying to control but can't.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Will Hill showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
That's time! Back to the action! This is the final round!



Baran gets caught on his heels momentarily as he allows Hill to score an easy takedown into full guard.
A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Hill accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.

Hill gets to his feet and steps away from his opponent.
Baran throws a feint and then finishes with a kick to the body.
Hill shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts Baran as he jumps to the side.
Baran lands with a hook. Hill tried to avoid it but it clipped the top of his head.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Hill shakes his hands off, looking to compose himself, but takes a jab to the jaw whilst he does it.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.
Hill throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Baran's waist but Baran gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Hill off to one side.
Nice defenses there by Hill.
Baran lands with a cross to side of his opponent's head.
Baran's corner calls for a 1-2. Baran obliges with the 1 part as he scores the single shot and moves back out of range.
Hill needs to keep his hands up - Baran had a free shot at his head there.
Hill shoots in for a takedown but doesn't get it.
Bob Baran has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Will Hill.
Baran lands a powerful looking uppercut that connected with his opponent's jaw.
Baran lands a leg kick. The shin dug right into the meat of the thigh.
Will Hill is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
Baran swings wildly with a hook that is half blocked by Hill.
Hill shoots and misses
and Baran counters with an inside leg kick.

Baran throws a hook but Hill avoids it easily.
Baran lands a vicious shot with the stealth of a sniper and the strength of a viper. Are vipers that strong? I can think of lots of things that are stronger than a viper - not many rhyme with sniper though.
Hill slips a straight right by Baran.
Baran with a nice cross.
Baran lands with a thumping leg kick.
Hill uses good head movement to avoid the hook from Baran.
Hill shakes his hands off, looking to compose himself, but takes a jab to the jaw whilst he does it.
Hill shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says Baran as he avoids it easily.

Baran scores with a straight right hand, right through his opponent's guard.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Hill takes a head kick and keeps coming.
Baran fakes a head shot and lands one to the body.
Hill moves out of range of the strikes.
Hill shoots in but doesn't get the takedown
and Baran counters with a nice uppercut.
Jab, jab by Baran - just one landing.
Hill steps to his left, right into the path of a big body kick from Baran. That one must have hurt.
Hill takes a kick to the side of the head.
Hill takes a nice looking leg kick right on the meat of his thigh there.
Hill misses with a double jab
and Baran counters with a nice low kick that buckles Hill's knee momentarily.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Baran thuds a left hand into Hill's body.
Baran ducks down and throws a hook to the body but Hill moves away.
Hill on the wrong end of a nice hook.
Baran swats away the attempt to clinch by Hill.
Hill takes one to the side of the head.
A really sloppy takedown attempt there from Hill.
Baran lands with a cross.

And that's the end of the fight!
Bob Baran showed his dominance in that final round.
I think Baran has won this one but let's see what the judges have to say. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
