Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the bantamweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Jose Aldo! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Jared Arez! The judges for this bout are Shirou Masuda, Yuuki Gou and Sosuke Kotani.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Arez will have to do better than that with his takedown attempts. Aldo avoids the clinch attempt nicely.
Aldo looking to shoot here. He's gone for it and he's landed a takedown into mount! Oh, that's bad for Arez! Aldo working for a guillotine from mount but Arez is in no mood to give up. The referee warns Arez that he has to improve his position here as he takes two more clean shots to the head.
Arez is bucking up trying to escape but Aldo cracks him with another couple of good strikes. Aldo landing strikes, looking to finish! Aldo goes for an armbar but Arez turns quickly into his guard - lovely anticipation from Arez. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Aldo utilising some decent striking defenses from the guard, preventing the ground and pound. Aldo keeping moving, preventing Arez from controlling successfully.
That's one minute gone in the round. Aldo controls Arez momentarily but Arez frees himself. Arez really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Aldo. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out. Aldo wants to sweep but no luck. Aldo manages to land a sweep and now he's in mount on top!
Arez tries to get back to half guard but can't. Aldo landing punches. Aldo looking to secure an arm triangle but Arez defends it well. Arez is working to get back to half guard.
Aldo trying to control but Arez is having none of it. Aldo has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Aldo breaks from Arez's wrist control and lands an elbow. Arez can't escape the position.
BOOM! Aldo connects with a massive shot to the dome!
Aldo landing strikes from the mount and Arez is in trouble! Aldo lands a shot to the body, followed up by a shot to the exposed head of his trapped opponent.
Arez is looking to get to half guard. Aldo tries to control but Arez wriggling away. Aldo lands a couple of nice shots there from mount.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Aldo looking to control but Arez is working nicely, looking to advance position himself. Aldo is really struggling to control Arez but he's trying to hold on to the position. Arez is looking to get to half guard. Arez looks gassed! Arez wants to hold on but Aldo pushes him away. Arez taking shots to the head. Aldo has hold of an arm here, looking to extend it. He's committed to the armbar attempt here! Will he get it?! Yes! Arez is forced to tap!
