Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Joe Jacobs! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, BJ Aldo! The judges for this bout are Luis Engracia, Mauricio Rocha and Edson Gomes.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! No luck with that takedown attempt from Jacobs. Some bone on bone action there as Jacobs checks a low kick. Luckily it wasn't a particularly hard one. Aldo has a takedown stuffed. Aldo with a lazy takedown attempt letting Jacobs counter with a right hand. Jacobs stuffs the takedown attempt from Aldo. Aldo gets slowly back to his feet. Joe Jacobs has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of BJ Aldo. Aldo is looking to score with low kicks. Jacobs doesn't manage to clinch there - Aldo circles away.
Aldo is looking to clinch but Jacobs is avoiding it.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Aldo fakes an overhand right and shoots for a takedown. Jacobs sprawls well initially but Aldo persists and gets the takedown into half guard. Aldo missing with some ground and pound from the half guard. Jacobs manages to get to full guard.
Jacobs manages to land a sweep and now he's in mount on top!
Aldo really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Jacobs. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.
That's one minute gone in the round. Jacobs working to secure an arm triangle but it's not happening for him just yet. Jacobs wants to control the pace but Aldo is squirming around nicely. Jacobs working for a guillotine from mount but Aldo is in no mood to give up. Aldo is not a happy chappy… he wants out of there.
Aldo tries to reverse the position but Jacobs maintains control. Aldo is persisting with the attempt to improve his position.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Jacobs takes Aldo's back. Aldo is in a world of trouble here. He's outmatched on the ground here and he'd better get Jacobs off his back sharpish unless he wants to be submitted. Aldo is trying to stand back up. Jacobs has the hooks in and he's looking for a rear naked choke here. Aldo is defending well but eventually Jacobs manages to get an arm under the chin and he's locked on the RNC! Aldo has no choice but to tap now! He does! This one is all over!
