Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the super heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of
0 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Hong Man Choi!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of
0 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Bitis Gabonica!
The judges for this bout are Skip Squint, Steve Erwin and Donatello Bradman.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Choi throws a combination. Gabonica tries to block but a couple of punches get through.
It looks like Bitis Gabonica has been cut.
Gabonica takes a hook to the side of the head. I wonder if that's got his ears ringing.
Gabonica rushes Choi and presses him up against the cage.
Gabonica has a body lock and is looking for a takedown. Choi is bouncing around trying to prevent the takedown and somehow he has indeed managed to stay on his feet.
Choi is pressed up against the cage. Gabonica has hold of a leg and is looking to drag Choi down to the mat. Choi avoids the attempt though and has circled away. We're back to striking at a distance.
This has been an exciting period of action!
Gabonica shoots in but no luck this time.
Hong Man Choi has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Bitis Gabonica.
Gabonica moves into the clinch.
Gabonica gets double underhooks to prevent a takedown attempt from Choi.
Choi jumps guard but his hands slip and he falls flat on his back. Well, he's made himself look a right mug there, as Gabonica walks away with a smile on his face. Choi gets slowly back to his feet and shakes his head.
Gabonica feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position.
Choi is avoiding any damage by keeping wrist control.
Choi wants to stand and escape but Gabonica is having none of it.
Gabonica slips effortlessly into side control - very nice.
Choi is looking to regain half guard here but Gabonica keeps moving and retains side control.
That's one minute gone in the round.
Gabonica throwing shots but missing, from side control.
Choi dodges the ground and pound from Gabonica.
Gabonica is looking to finish here, going for an Americana. Choi knows the correct defense though, so he's OK.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Choi wants to escape from the position here - easier said than done!
Gabonica tries to land with some ground and pound but misses.
Choi is positioning himself to get back to half guard.
Gabonica has worked his way into a potential kimura here. Choi is trying to get out of the position but his squirming has just got him deeper into trouble. Gabonica yanks on the arm and Choi is forced to tap due to a very painful looking submission! Nice work by Gabonica.
Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:05 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (Kimura). Bitis Gabonica!
