PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between John Heartman (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Savinay Pillavino (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Heartman comes to the ring accompanied by Heartman Theme song. Pillavino has chosen Tere Bina as his entrance music, which hasn't gone down very well with the crowd. Savinay Pillavino will no doubt be trying to keep this one on the feet, where he has a distinct advantage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 2 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 12 - 11 - 1, fighting out of Las Vegas, John Heartman!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 12 - 10 - 1, fighting out of Las Vegas, Savinay Pillavino!
The judges for this bout are George Francis, Cecil Peabody and Wesley Smith.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Pillavino scores with a nice right hand.
Pillavino throws a monster uppercut resembling something out of street fighter but it doesn't land.
Heartman walks straight into a jab right on the nose. That one stung - he's blinking and trying to clear his head.
Pillavino scores with a jab to the head.
Pillavino misses with a body shot.
Pillavino throws a jab when Heartman was well out of range.

Heartman closes the distance, clinches up and gets a nice trip takedown into side control. Very smooth.
The fighters are trapped in the ropes so we're going to have a reposition here. The ref calls for a break and repositions the fighters in the center of the ring.
Heartman tries to move to mount but Pillavino blocks the move with his legs.

Heartman tries for an arm triangle. That looks pretty tight to me. Is this one over!?! Possibly, maybe, no Heartman has let go of the choke. Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought!
Pillavino tries to get back to half guard but can't.
Pillavino manages to land a sweep and he's now on top! Lovely Jiu Jitsu!

Pillavino trying to control the action but Heartman is working from the bottom.
Pillavino thows a huge punch but Heartman dodges it nicely.
Heartman is looking to escape.
Pillavino not throwing his punches with enough precision this time.

Pillavino is sneakily working for an arm triangle but Heartman sees it coming and defends easily.
Pillavino thumps the canvas. Not on purpose obviously - he just missed Heartman's head.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.

Heartman is really struggling to control Pillavino but he's trying to hold on to the position.

A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.
Heartman is going to have to think about doing something other than just controlling because Pillavino is managing to avoid having the position dictated to him.
Pillavino not looking particularly offensive just at the moment.
Heartman trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet.
Heartman postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect.

The referee has ruled that neither fighter is active enough on the ground and has stood them back up.
A lazy left from Pillavino finds it's target.
Pillavino throws an uppercut from half a mile away. Heartman sees it coming and avoids it easily.
Savinay Pillavino seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Pillavino loads up on a big right hand but Heartman slips the punch.

Heartman drops down and drives through with a powerful takedown into guard.

Heartman has gone for a leg lock! Pillavino slips out almost immediately though and dives into Heartman's guard.
Pillavino passes Heartman's left leg - he's now in half guard.
The fighters are tangled up in the ropes here. We might need a restart if the fighters can't break free themselves.
Pillavino slips a nice elbow through Heartman's hands, connecting with Heartman's forehead.
Heartman regains full guard. Nicely done.
Pillavino wants to control from the top but Heartman keeps moving.
Pillavino loading up with the ground and pound but he's missing more than he's landing in this flurry.

Pillavino drops back looking for a leg! Heartman is in trouble here! The fighters roll with the hold and Heartman manages to kick Pillavino off! Pillavino jumps back into Heartman's guard.

Heartman controls Pillavino momentarily but Pillavino frees himself.

Pillavino thinks about going for a leg but decides against it, in order to maintain the position.

The referee has ruled that neither fighter is active enough on the ground and has stood them back up.

Heartman instigates a clinch.
A head punch blocked on the inside by Heartman.
Pillavino wants a takedown.
Heartman blocks an uppercut.
Pillavino fails to land with a short punch on the inside.

Heartman pulls guard.

Pillavino got a little sloppy there for a moment and Heartman has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Pillavino has managed to get both his arms back between Heartman's legs - danger averted.
Heartman utilising some decent striking defenses from the guard, preventing the ground and pound.

Pillavino avoids a guillotine attempt easily.
Heartman is breathing heavily.
Pillavino tries to free his leg and advance position but Heartman is retaining full guard.

Heartman is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent.

Heartman is looking for a guillotine. You can't force these things though and Pillavino defends well.

The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.

Heartman keeping moving, preventing Pillavino from controlling successfully.

It looks like we're going to have a standup here. Neither fighter is doing enough on the ground.
Heartman has a takedown stuffed.
Heartman uses good head movement to avoid the hook from Pillavino.
Pillavino tries to close the distance and clinch but Heartman swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.
Heartman fakes high and shoots in for a takedown but Pillavino avoids it really well and circles away.
Pillavino tests Heartman's chin there with a solid looking shot.
Heartman blocks a jab.

That's seven minutes gone in the round.
Pillavino lands a nice shot that snaps Heartman's head back.
Pillavino throws out a token jab with nothing on it.
A jab from Pillavino misses.

Heartman fails to land the takedown.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for John Heartman. That's going to take a lot out of him.

Pillavino gets caught flat footed, as Heartman shoots in with a quick takedown into guard.
Pillavino lands a beautiful switch and he's in full mount! That could spell trouble for Heartman!
Heartman is in all sorts of trouble here.

Pillavino working for a submission but Heartman is keeping him at bay.

Pillavino has control of Heartman's right arm, working for a kimura. It's a bit of a token attempt though and Heartman regains control of the situation pretty easily.

That's eight minutes gone in the round.

Pillavino swings around for an armbar but it's a sloppy attempt and Heartman is now in Pillavino's guard. A big mistake from Pillavino there, giving up the dominant position!

Heartman stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Pillavino swivels though and keeps the full guard.

And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

A close round but Savinay Pillavino will probably get the nod.
Well, the break between rounds is over. Let's get back to the scrappin! So, we enter the final round. Let's see if either fighter can bring us a finish, or whether we're going to the judges scorecards.



Pillavino changes levels and drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. Heartman looks really pissed at himself for not defending that better.
Heartman tries to work a leg under to get back to half guard but Pillavino wriggles his own leg back out and remains in side control.

Pillavino is in a dominant position here, looking for a kimura. Heartman looks calm but he's in trouble here. Pillavino gets his leg over his opponent's head and yanks on the arm. Heartman is tapping like a morse code operator on the titanic! SOS! SOS! Pillavino lets go of the hold and Heartman can pop his arm back in it's socket.

Ladies and gentlemen, after 0:26 of round 2, we have a winner by way of Submission (Kimura). Savinay Pillavino!
