Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
7 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Jesse James! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
2 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Caupolican Mapuche! The judges for this bout are Tarja Halkonen, Johanna Lukiainen and Ben Zyskovitsi.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Mapuche throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle. James feints and as Mapuche raises his hands in defense, James changes levels and drives through with a takedown into guard. James passes into half guard. James scoring with strikes to the body and head. James has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission. James with a momentary lay and pray from half guard. Mapuche wants to control but James is keeping busy and won't allow it. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Mapuche is trying to get back to full guard. Mapuche lands a couple of sideways elbows. James is pressing down on Mapuche's thigh, looking to free his foot. Mapuche is holding on for now. James controlling the pace. James is trying to work for a kimura but Mapuche is defending well.
James is looking to advance position but Mapuche won't allow it. Mapuche is looking to improve his position.
That's one minute gone in the round. James is looking for a kimura but he's never going to get it from there. Mapuche gets back to full guard.
Mapuche is trying to control the position but James postures up. James looking to pass the guard. Mapuche trying to strike off his back.
James tries to free his leg and advance position but Mapuche is retaining full guard.
That's two minutes gone in the round. The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.
Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up. Mapuche slips under a jab. Mapuche looks to land a body kick but James moved away. Mapuche lunges in with swinging rights and lefts but James circles away quickly and effectively. Mapuche throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle. James looks to throw the jab but Mapuche is out of range. Excellent takedown into side control there by James. James is breathing heavily. James is looking for a kimura. He might have it! No, Mapuche has escaped the position, nice work there. Mapuche manages to get one leg in to regain half guard. James maintaining the dominant position here and is working for a kimura. He's locked it up! Mapuche could be in real trouble here! He's trying to wriggle out but James has cracked it and Mapuche is screaming in pain - he's tapped out! Great finish by James!
