Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
6 - 9 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Chuck Evans! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
3 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Quinton Kabanov! The judges for this bout are Tatsuya Matsuyama, Yuuki Gou and Ren Mimura.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! A really sloppy takedown attempt there from Kabanov. Evans tries for a takedown but Kabanov circles away easily and Kabanov counters with a leg kick. Evans throws a two punch combo that lands nicely.
It looks like Quinton Kabanov has been cut. Evans pulls out of a head kick attempt.
Evans is the aggressor but that punch slipped nicely by Kabanov. Evans has his takedown stuffed and Kabanov counters with a nice body shot. Kabanov fakes with a right hand and throws a good leg kick, right into the thigh. That had to hurt Evans. Evans is breathing heavily. This has been an exciting period of action! Kabanov pushes Evans up against the cage in a clinch. Kabanov lands a nice trip takedown into half guard.
We could do with one of the fighters taking the initiative a bit more on the ground - they're both waiting to capitalize on a mistake. Kabanov sitting in half guard, looking to land shots. Evans defending well though. Kabanov looking to pass the half guard. Not this time. Kabanov throwing shots but they're hitting the canvas more than the man. Evans is staying active underneath Kabanov, who seems content to just control the action from this position.
That's one minute gone in the round. Kabanov looking to pass the half guard. Not this time. Kabanov thumps the canvas. Not on purpose obviously - he just missed Evans's head.
It looks like we're going to have a standup here. Neither fighter is doing enough on the ground. Kabanov moves into the clinch. Kabanov breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat. Kabanov scoring well with a low kick there.
Kabanov gets the takedown into side control. An elbow from Kabanov crashes against the mat.
Evans really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape. Kabanov wants to stand but Evans is controlling his arm. Evans manages to land a sweep and he's now on top! Lovely Jiu Jitsu! The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Kabanov punching from the bottom.
Evans is trying for a kimura here. Kabanov looks like he's in a lot of pain... and he's tapping out! Evans wins by kimura!
Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:01 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (Kimura). Chuck Evans!
