PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Sergei Poloski (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Humberto Bolognesi (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Humberto Bolognesi told me before the fight that he's been watching a lot of DVDs so let's see if that helps him in this one! I can't wait to find out!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Sergei Poloski!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Humberto Bolognesi!
The judges for this bout are Matheus Silva, Daniel Cesar and Paulo Santos.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Poloski throws a nice hook to the body that draws an oooh from the crowd.
Poloski dodges the punch combination from Bolognesi.
Poloski misses with a half-hearted attempt at a head kick.

Bolognesi gets caught on his heels momentarily as he allows Poloski to score an easy takedown into full guard.

Bolognesi is throwing his legs up, looking for submissions. Poloski is aware though and is defending well.

Poloski is pressed up against the cage. Bolognesi has hold of a leg and is looking to drag Poloski down to the mat. Poloski avoids the attempt though and has circled away. We're back to striking at a distance.

Poloski throws a head kick but Bolognesi moves out of range.

Poloski has a closed guard, preventing anything of note from happening. Perhaps he's looking to stall.

Poloski manages to escape and get back to his feet.
Bolognesi keeps the fight on the outside.
Bolognesi shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts Poloski as he jumps to the side.
Sergei Poloski has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Humberto Bolognesi.
Poloski throws a series of punches but Bolognesi moves out of range.

Bolognesi feints and as Poloski raises his hands in defense, Bolognesi changes levels and drives through with a takedown into guard.

Poloski pushes Bolognesi off for just long enough to get back to his feet. Very athletic spring there.

Bolognesi shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says Poloski as he avoids it easily.

and Bolognesi decides to take the opportunity to score a takedown. He's landed in Poloski's guard.
Poloski is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent.

Bolognesi passes easily into side control. Nice work.

Bolognesi thinks about going for a far side armbar but bails out and retains the dominant position instead.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
You can see the frustration on Poloski's face, being in this tough position on the bottom.
A lull in the action here.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
Poloski regains half guard.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Humberto Bolognesi dominated that round.
The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action!


Bolognesi swings wildly with a couple of big hooks

and Poloski counters with a single leg into guard. Bolognesi didn't expect that.
Bolognesi controls Poloski momentarily but Poloski frees himself.
Poloski is taking a break and basically stalling. The referee will not allow him to do that for long.

Poloski is intent on slowing down the pace of the fight, simply looking to control.

Poloski got a little sloppy there for a moment and Bolognesi has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Poloski has managed to get both his arms back between Bolognesi's legs - danger averted.

Poloski looking to sit in guard and control but Bolognesi gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top.
Poloski has momentary wrist control but Bolognesi slips an elbow through the middle.
Bolognesi lands a couple of digs.
Bolognesi is just sitting in guard, looking to avoid any submissions.
Bolognesi is in close to Poloski's body, working some short punches and elbows.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

There's a bit of a scramble here and now Poloski is on top in guard.
Poloski lands a couple of elbows.
Poloski is fighting to break Bolognesi's control of his arms but Bolognesi is doing a good job of controlling the position at the moment.

Poloski is trying to tuck his arms in to keep them safe but Bolognesi has managed to isolate one of them and has got a loose triangle. Poloski is looking to defend but Bolognesi has done well to lock his legs together - this could be big trouble for Poloski! Bolognesi pulls down on the head and a little smile comes across his face - he knows he's got it. Yep, Poloski taps out and this one is all over!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 3:50 of round 2, we have a winner by way of Submission (Triangle). Humberto Bolognesi!
