Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 5 rounds, for the lightweight championship of the world! Introducing the champion to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
25 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Jun Kimura! And introducing the challenger to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
1 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, James Jones! The judges for this bout are Yuuki Gou, Shirou Masuda and Shigeki Sano.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Jones closes the distance and clinches up with Kimura, looking for a takedown. Jones pushes Kimura against the cage but Kimura circles to the side and manages to break the clinch. Kimura fails with a takedown attempt from distance. Jones tries to clinch up. Kimura misses with a wild body shot. Jones with a poor takedown and Kimura counters with a lovely shot to the body. Kimura has a takedown stuffed. Jones clinches but Kimura breaks the clinch and Kimura counters with a nice shoot takedown that brings the fighters to the ground. Kimura with a flurry of punches that miss. Kimura scores with a decent looking elbow strike. Kimura trying to land body shots but he keeps hitting the mat. Jones wants to stand but Kimura is controlling the position. Kimura missing there with some ground and pound from the guard.
That's one minute gone in the round. Kimura pushes down on Jones's leg and manages to get into half guard. Jones wants to improve his position but Kimura is controlling well.
Kimura wants to take a breather but Jones is having none of it. Jones is trying to stand up here but Kimura is controlling him well.
The referee decides to stand the fighters back up. Kimura rushes Jones and presses him up against the cage. Kimura turns his hips and lands a very nice judo throw into side control! Kimura is putting a hurting on Jones here, landing some big shots from side control. We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Jones can do anything to dispel that myth. Jones wants to control but Kimura postures up. Kimura is looking to take a break and control but Jones is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom. An elbow from Kimura crashes against the mat.
Kimura will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Kimura landing with strikes to the head and body from side control. A control attempt from Jones but he's now mounted! Kimura putting on the heat here with some good ground and pound! Kimura avoids the attempt from Jones to control. Kimura has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission. Kimura looking to ground and pound his opponent to a finish here.

That's three minutes gone in the round. Kimura wants to control the pace but Jones is squirming around nicely. Kimura scoring with strikes but Jones is staying in there. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Kimura breaks from Jones's wrist control and lands an elbow. Jones keeping his composure momentarily, calmly looking to get back to half guard.
Kimura lands an elbow that was bordering on illegal but the referee lets it go with a warning. Jones really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Kimura. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out. Kimura lands a big shot there that rocks Jones but he's holding on and managing to survive for now.

Jones is rocked! Jones is writhing around trying to get back to his feet. Kimura landing punches. Jones is still in real trouble! Can Kimura finish him? Kimura lands a heavy elbow. Kimura has his opponent pinned against the cage, landing some nasty ground and pound that is really making a bit of a mess out of Jones's face.
Kimura is breathing heavily. Kimura cracks Jones with a big head shot that has him covering up instantly! He's rolled onto his side and the referee has seen enough - this one is aaaaaaaaaaall over!
Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:18 of round 1, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Jun Kimura! Jun Kimura retains his lightweight title!
