Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
21 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Hiro Miyagi! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Mujaja Martial! The judges for this bout are Yasuomi Hirokawa, Yukihiro Yamamoto and Tatsuya Matsuyama.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Miyagi closes the distance and pushes Martial back into the cage. Miyagi wants a takedown.
Martial stops a takedown attempt from Miyagi.
Miyagi blocks a punch to the side of the head.
Miyagi works for the underhooks and manages to get a trip takedown into guard. Martial working a defensive guard here.
Miyagi throwing strikes but missing. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Miyagi landing some decent shots from guard. Martial really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Miyagi. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out. Martial is pulling down on Miyagi's head. It's preventing any offense from Miyagi, at least for the moment. Martial keeping moving, preventing Miyagi from controlling successfully. Miyagi has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission. Miyagi throwing strikes but missing.
That's one minute gone in the round. Martial looking to sweep here. No luck so far. Martial not looking particularly offensive just at the moment.
Miyagi is in close to Martial's body, working some short punches and elbows. Miyagi postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect. Martial tries to land a sweep but no joy. Martial keeping moving, preventing Miyagi from controlling successfully.
The referee has ruled that neither fighter is active enough on the ground and has stood them back up. Martial shoots in looking for a takedown. Miyagi tries to sprawl out of it but Martial keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Miyagi manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing. Martial dives in and grabs Miyagi's left leg, looking for a takedown. Miyagi pushes down on Martial's head and hops out. Martial is trying hard to land a takedown here. Miyagi sprawls well and keeps this one on the feet. Hiro Miyagi has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Mujaja Martial.
That's two minutes gone in the round. The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena. Miyagi changes levels and drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. Martial looks really pissed at himself for not defending that better. Martial wants to control but Miyagi postures up. Martial is not content to let Miyagi control the position. Martial is positioning himself to get back to half guard. Miyagi advances to mount. We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Martial can do anything to dispel that myth. Miyagi with shots to the head and body - Martial looks very uncomfortable down there. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Miyagi jumps to side control looking for an arm triangle but Martial manages to avoid the submission attempt. Martial is looking to regain half guard here but Miyagi keeps moving and retains side control.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Martial struggling a bit here. Miyagi creates a bit of distance and throws down some hard shots. Martial wants to control but Miyagi postures up. Miyagi working the ground and pound. Miyagi is putting a hurting on Martial here, landing some big shots from side control. You can see the frustration on Martial's face, being in this tough position on the bottom. Miyagi moves into full mount! Miyagi has his opponent pinned against the cage, landing some nasty ground and pound that is really making a bit of a mess out of Martial's face.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Miyagi avoids the attempt from Martial to control. Martial looks gassed! Miyagi postures up and lands a whopping elbow - oh that's hurt Martial bigstyle! Two more strikes land for Miyagi and the fight is over!
