Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 5 rounds, for the lightweight championship of the world! Introducing the champion to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
24 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Jun Kimura! And introducing the challenger to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
7 - 8 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Laurent Tsadyleba! The judges for this bout are Shigeki Sano, Shirou Masuda and Shigeki Fujiwara.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Tsadyleba looks for a takedown here. Will he get it? Kimura is fending him off so far but Tsadyleba persists. Nope, Kimura circles away and we're back to standing. Kimura keeps the fight on the outside. Kimura throws a jab to the body, straight down the pipe. Boom. That sent Tsadyleba stumbling backwards but he manages to regain his composure quickly. Laurent Tsadyleba seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout. Tsadyleba moves in looking to clinch but Kimura pushes him off. Tsadyleba shoots in looking for a double leg takedown. Kimura defends it nicely. Kimura lands a nice shot to the body.
Kimura connects with a looping left hand that seems like it dazed Tsadyleba momentarily.
Tsadyleba will have to do better than that with his takedown attempts. Jun Kimura has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Laurent Tsadyleba. Kimura looks to score with a jab to the body but Tsadyleba is just out of range. Excellent takedown into side control there by Kimura. Kimura tries to advance to mount but Tsadyleba denies him.
That's one minute gone in the round. Kimura working hard here to secure a kimura but he's not really in the right position for it. Tsadyleba is trying to get back to half guard. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Kimura working the ground and pound from side control. You can see the frustration on Tsadyleba's face, being in this tough position on the bottom.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Kimura landing a few strikes. Kimura has hold of Tsadyleba's arm here. He's working for an Americana. It looks like he might have it! Tsadyleba tries to escape but he's just digging himself in deeper - Kimura cranks the arm and Tsadyleba screams in pain! The ref makes a decision and ends the fight before the tap - no complains from Tsadyleba, who is just happy to have his arm attached to his body.
Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:26 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (Americana). Jun Kimura! Jun Kimura retains his lightweight title!
