PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Vitor Belfort (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Rip James (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Belfort comes to the cage accompanied by Delinquent Habits - Tres Delinquentes . James has chosen What's the difference as his entrance music, which hasn't gone down very well with the crowd. Man, I cannot wait for this one!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of London, Vitor Belfort!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 20 - 11 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Rip James!
The judges for this bout are Daniel Bishop, James Glass and Chris Edwards.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
James moves in looking to clinch but Belfort pushes him off.

Belfort gets caught on his heels momentarily as he allows James to score an easy takedown into full guard.
Belfort wants to sweep but no luck.

Belfort throwing his legs up looking for a triangle.
Belfort is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent.
James trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet.

Belfort controls James momentarily but James frees himself.

Belfort is trying to hold James in close to prevent damage but James has managed to pass into half guard.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
James stuffs a takedown. It's all about dictating where the fight takes place and James wants it to stay on the feet.
James moves in looking to clinch but Belfort pushes him off.
James lands a lovely overhand right.

Belfort feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position.

James wants to sweep but no luck.
James utilising some decent striking defenses from the guard, preventing the ground and pound.

Belfort lands a couple of decent looking shots.
Belfort won't allow James to sweep him here.
Belfort controlling from the top position.
James looking for a sweep. Not yet James, not yet.
James keeping moving, preventing Belfort from controlling successfully.
Belfort throwing shots from guard but he's hitting more mat than opponent.
Belfort wants to control from the top but James keeps moving.

A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Belfort accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
Belfort fails with a takedown attempt.
Belfort fakes a head punch and goes low to the body. Nicely done.
James fakes high and shoots in for a takedown but Belfort avoids it really well and circles away.
James fails to land with a series of punches.

Belfort shoots in and scores a nice double leg takedown into half guard.
James is not content to let Belfort control the position.
Belfort keeping composed on the top, looking to control the action.
Belfort has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.

James wants to get back to full guard.
James is trying to defend against the ground and pound but Belfort scores with a couple of nice shots.
Belfort trying to control from James's half guard. James has other ideas though and has regained full guard.
Belfort cracks James with a solid left hand.
Belfort postures up and scores with a shot to the body and a follow up elbow to the head.

Belfort looks for a takedown but James sprawls well.
James cracks Belfort with a good shot that sees him stumbling back into the cage.
James tries to close the distance and clinch up but Belfort swats him away and circles back towards the center.
James tries to score a power double leg takedown but Belfort sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten James somewhat.
Wow, both these guys are really going for it!

Belfort shoots in for a takedown! He's got it and he's managed to land in full mount! That's better than Belfort was expecting from the takedown attempt, I'm sure!

Belfort can't quite control the action as he would like just now, as James is looking to escape.
Belfort cracks James with a nasty head shot there - the crowd let out an audible gasp there, as the noise reverberated around the arena.

Belfort lands with some vicious ground and pound - can James hang on?
James gets back to half guard.
Belfort working to pass to mount. He's got his hand pressing down on James's thigh. James counters though and makes it back to full guard.

Belfort lands a couple of elbows.
Belfort wants to control from the top but James keeps moving.

James looking for submissions from the bottom here. Moving his hips around, possibly looking for an armbar.
Belfort tries to free his leg and advance position but James is retaining full guard.

Belfort is looking to work some ground and pound but James has wrist control.
Belfort missing there with some ground and pound from the guard.
James preventing the ground and pound from doing any damage.
Belfort throws and elbow that misses. James uses the momentum to reverse the position. He's now in Belfort's guard. Nice move by James!
Belfort wants to sweep but no luck.

It looks like we're going to have a standup here. Neither fighter is doing enough on the ground.
Belfort shoots in but doesn't get the takedown
and James counters with a crisp hook to the side of the head.
James misses with an uppercut. Belfort saw that one coming.

James shoots in for a takedown! He's got it and he's managed to land in full mount! That's better than James was expecting from the takedown attempt, I'm sure!
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
James prevents Belfort from getting the reversal.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Belfort is squirming around, avoiding James's attempts to control the action.
Vitor Belfort overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.
Belfort is trying to escape the mount.
Belfort is writhing around trying to get back to his feet.
James tucks in and makes sure he doesn't lose the dominant position.
Belfort in a bad spot here, taking shots to the head.
Belfort keeping his composure momentarily, calmly looking to get back to half guard.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.
Belfort wants to hold on but James pushes him away.
Belfort gets back to half guard.
James works his way into full mount!
Belfort is just holding on here. James manages to take his back.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
A bit of a pause in the action here. James controlling the positon.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Rip James showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action. This is the final round!



Belfort shoots in from a long way out. He's driving through with the takedown attempt and he eventually gets it, landing in James's guard.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

James can't keep his opponent in guard - Belfort advances to half guard, no doubt looking to mount.
Belfort not throwing his punches with enough precision this time.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
James wants to control but Belfort is keeping busy.
Belfort frees up his trapped foot and advances to mount.
Belfort lands an elbow that was bordering on illegal but the referee lets it go with a warning.
James can't escape the position.

James is squirming around, avoiding Belfort's attempts to control the action.
Belfort sends his fist crashing into the mat - the crowd let out a collective ooooooh. Let's hope he's not broken it!

The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.
Belfort postures up and cracks his opponent a couple of times before moving back into close ground control. James looks a forlorn figure.
James takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.

Belfort postures up and connects with a big shot that has rocked James badly. He's trying desperately to grab hold of Belfort around the waist but Belfort pushes him off and unloads with more strikes, forcing the referee to jump in and save him! Belfort is the winner by TKO! Belfort jumps onto the cage and shouts into the camera. "We did it momma!"

Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:36 of round 3, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Vitor Belfort!
