Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Simon Byrne (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Peter Chao (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Peter Chao will no doubt be looking to use his reach advantage to good effect.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Simon Byrne!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Peter Chao!
The judges for this bout are Tatsuya Matsuyama, Yukihiro Yamamoto and Yukihiro Shimada.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Chao moves into the clinch successfully.
Byrne fails to pull the fight into his guard.
Byrne misses with an elbow over the top.
Chao taking a break, stalling in the clinch.

Chao escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.
No luck for Byrne with that takedown attempt.
Chao misses with a double jab.

Chao drives through and clinches with Byrne against the cage.

Chao jumps into guard, dragging Byrne to the mat.
Byrne trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet.
Byrne wants to control from the top but Chao keeps moving.
Chao looking to sweep here. No luck so far.
Byrne stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Chao swivels though and keeps the full guard.
Byrne with a flurry of punches that miss.
Chao is adopting a defensive guard.
Chao avoiding any damage from the ground and pound.

Byrne has gone for a leg lock! Chao slips out almost immediately though and dives into Byrne's guard.
Chao working some strikes from top position.
Chao controls the pace of the fight for a moment.

Byrne is looking for a guillotine. You can't force these things though and Chao defends well.
Chao connects with a couple of short punches.
Chao is just sitting in guard, looking to avoid any submissions.

Byrne can't keep his opponent in guard - Chao advances to half guard, no doubt looking to mount.

Chao decides to return to a standing position.
Byrne shoots in looking for a double leg takedown. Chao defends it nicely.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Simon Byrne. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Byrne is breathing heavily.

Chao has Byrne up against the cage in a clinch.
Chao lands a body punch.

Chao has double underhooks and is working for a body lock takedown. He's got it. The fighters land in half guard but Byrne regains guard immediately.

Byrne has momentary wrist control but Chao slips an elbow through the middle.

Hammerfist, elbow! yells Chao's corner. There ya go! There ya go!
Chao is taking a break and basically stalling. The referee will not allow him to do that for long.

Byrne is looking for a guillotine. You can't force these things though and Chao defends well.
Chao pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. Byrne is keeping the position for now.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Chao stands and throws Byrne's legs to the side, diving into side control.
Byrne struggling a bit here.

My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer.
Chao remains in side control and seems content to stay there. It's a versatile position from which he can work both strikes and submissions, whilst maintaining that control, so maybe he'll sit here for a while.
Byrne tries to improve position but can't.
Chao in side control lands a decent elbow.
Byrne is trying to improve his position.
Chao is staying tight to Byrne's torso, preventing him from escaping.
Byrne is looking for a sweep.
You can see the frustration on Byrne's face, being in this tough position on the bottom.
Byrne is trying to escape the position but Chao is controlling the position.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Peter Chao dominated that round.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.


Byrne shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with Chao but Chao pushes him off and we're back to square one.

Chao forces Byrne back against the cage and clinches.

Chao breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.

Chao has closed the distance and engaged Byrne in a clinch.
A short body shot lands from Chao as the two fighters clinch.

Chao's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does.
Horrible takedown by Byrne or perhaps it was just good defense by Chao which made him look bad.
Chao lands a head kick!

Byrne throws the overhand right but ducks down into a quick takedown attempt. Chao was covering up waiting for the punch and Byrne finishes the takedown easily into guard.
Byrne is fighting to break Chao's control of his arms but Chao is doing a good job of controlling the position at the moment.

Chao pushes Byrne off and scrambles back to his feet.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

Chao clinches up against the cage.

Chao jumps guard and drags Byrne to the mat. He's obviously going to be looking for submissions off his back.
Byrne pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. Chao is keeping the position for now.
Byrne might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground.
Chao looking to hit a scissor sweep but Byrne is one step ahead there.
Byrne could do with loosing a few pounds - he looks very soft around the mid section, to put it politely.
Chao pulls Byrne in close to his closed guard and prevents Byrne from doing any damage or advancing position.
Byrne trying to control but Chao is working from the bottom.

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.

Byrne drops back, looking for a kneebar! Chao looks panicked! The fighters roll across the mat, one looking to finish, one looking to escape. Chao looks to have wriggled free... Yes, he's got his leg free and he's dived into side control! Good work there from Chao!
Chao takes a little break here. Byrne wants to take advantage but he is being controlled well.
Byrne struggling a bit here.
Byrne is letting Chao control him for a moment.

Chao is trying to get an arm triangle but Byrne is defending well.
Byrne tries to buck Chao off but Chao is having none of it.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Chao avoids the strikes from the bottom by Byrne.
Byrne tries to bench press Chao off him but Chao keeps the position.
Chao in side control lands a decent elbow.
Chao happy to just control the position for now.
Byrne is positioning himself to get back to half guard.
Byrne is letting Chao control him for a moment.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.
Byrne is moving his hips around well on the bottom and has managed to get back to half guard.
Chao controlling the pace.
Byrne is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.
Chao is nestled in close to Byrne, controlling him well. He's worked in a nice elbow to the side of the head as well, for good measure.
Chao stalling.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Peter Chao showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action! Let's hear some noise people - this is the final round!


Byrne fakes high and shoots in for a takedown but Chao avoids it really well and circles away.
Byrne has a takedown stuffed.

Chao bobs and weaves into range and then changes levels and scores with a nice takedown into side control.

Chao wants to work for a kimura but he's foiled early by Byrne, who protects the arm well.
Chao is moving around in side control but his primary objective seems to be to maintain the position.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.

Byrne is not content to let Chao control the position.

The ref stands the fighters back up, due to lack of action by Peter Chao.
Chao throws a head kick that half lands.
Byrne doesn't succeed with the takedown

and Chao counters with a nice shoot takedown that brings the fighters to the ground.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Simon Byrne. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Chao controls the pace of the fight for a moment.
Byrne looking to hit a scissor sweep but Chao is one step ahead there.
Chao is frustrating his opponent with some stalling tactics from top position.

Byrne throwing his legs up looking for a triangle.
Byrne is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent.

Chao decides to stand up and beckons his opponent to follow.
Chao throws a body kick that sends a sickening thudding noise reverberating around the arena.
Chao dips down and scores with a jab to the body.
Byrne keeps the fight standing with a nice sprawl.

Byrne shoots in looking for a double leg takedown. Chao defends it nicely.

and Chao counters with a nice double leg into half guard.

Byrne is looking to sinch up a guillotine here but Chao pulls his head out easily.
Byrne is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.
Byrne is looking to escape.
Chao is just sitting in half guard, waiting for something to happen.
Peter Chao has got the better of the ground game so far.
Chao is thwarting Byrne's attempts to control the position.

Byrne is looking to improve his position.

Simon Byrne has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
Byrne is in trouble now - Chao has advanced to mount!

Peter Chao is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach.
Chao tucks in and makes sure he doesn't lose the dominant position.

Peter Chao comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
Well Chao has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
