Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Santos Juan Ruedas! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Luke Jones! The judges for this bout are Robert Douchet, Steve Smith and William Peck.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Jones bobs and weaves into range and then changes levels and scores with a nice takedown into side control. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Juan Ruedas manages to land a sweep and he's now on top! Lovely Jiu Jitsu! Jones is trying to control but can't.
Juan Ruedas seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but Jones does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back. The two fighters exchange a few words. I couldn't hear what they were saying but maybe it's more fun if you make it up yourself. Juan Ruedas connects with a nice short shot to Jones's temple. Jones has hold of Juan Ruedas's hands but Juan Ruedas slips his arm to the side and lands an elbow. Jones is trying to control but can't.
It looks like Juan Ruedas is going to stand back up.
Juan Ruedas is looking for a kimura. It's going to be difficult to finish that from half guard though and Jones defends it well. Jones avoiding damage under a succession of punches from Juan Ruedas. Juan Ruedas prevents Jones from improving his position.
That's one minute gone in the round. Juan Ruedas seems to be working for a kimura but Jones defends the submission attempt. Jones trying to control from the bottom.
The referee decides to stand the fighters back up. Jones walks straight into an uppercut. Luckily it didn't land flush. The fight stays on the outside here - Juan Ruedas looks like he's thinking about clinching though. Juan Ruedas lands with a cross to side of his opponent's head. Jones avoids the clinch attempt nicely.
Juan Ruedas tries to close the distance and clinch but Jones swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Jones is looking for a takedown here. He's shot in and has managed to get it, finishing up in Juan Ruedas's half guard. Jones is looking for a kimura but he's never going to get it from there. Juan Ruedas looking to work for a kimura from the bottom. Juan Ruedas wants to get back to his feet.
Juan Ruedas has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission. Juan Ruedas trying to hold on to Jones's head to control him but Jones postures up.

Jones is trying to work for a kimura but Juan Ruedas is defending well.
Jones looks gassed! Jones is thwarting Juan Ruedas's attempts to control the position. Jones wants to lay and pray for a moment but Juan Ruedas keeps working. Juan Ruedas looking to work for a kimura from the bottom.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Jones stops Juan Ruedas from getting back to his feet.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Juan Ruedas trying to control from the bottom.

It looks like we're going to have a standup here. Neither fighter is doing enough on the ground. Juan Ruedas clinches but Jones breaks the clinch and Jones counters with a shoot takedown. Juan Ruedas fights it but they end up in guard. Jones trying to control the position from guard on top but Juan Ruedas is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can. Jones looking to pass the guard. Juan Ruedas looking for submissions from the bottom here. Moving his hips around, possibly looking for an armbar.

Luke Jones dominated that round. OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action.
Juan Ruedas darts in trying to clinch and Jones counters with a nice double leg into guard. Jones slips nicely into half guard, despite the strikes coming from Juan Ruedas. Juan Ruedas keeping control of the leg, stopping his opponent passing to mount. Jones looking for a kimura but he'll have to free his other leg if he wants to finish that. Perhaps he's just using it as a distraction technique.
Jones is breathing heavily. Juan Ruedas slips a foot under and gets full guard. Nice work.
That's one minute gone in the round. Jones stops Juan Ruedas from standing up. Luke Jones has got the better of the ground game so far. Juan Ruedas lands a beautiful switch and he's in full mount! That could spell trouble for Jones! Jones wants to hold on but Juan Ruedas pushes him away. Juan Ruedas lands with some strikes. Juan Ruedas avoids the attempt from Jones to control. Juan Ruedas can't quite control the action as he would like just now, as Jones is looking to escape.
That's two minutes gone in the round. A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace. Juan Ruedas lands a shot to the body, followed up by a shot to the exposed head of his trapped opponent.
Juan Ruedas working for a guillotine from mount but Jones is in no mood to give up. Juan Ruedas lands a big elbow. Juan Ruedas trying to control but he's not successful this time. Jones is trying to escape the mount.

That's three minutes gone in the round. Juan Ruedas is going to have to think about doing something other than just controlling because Jones is managing to avoid having the position dictated to him. Juan Ruedas looking to secure an arm triangle but Jones defends it well. Juan Ruedas stands up from the dominant position, so we're back on the feet. Juan Ruedas is looking to take this fight into the clinch. Juan Ruedas shoots in and drives through. Jones sprawls well.
That's four minutes gone in the round. There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action. Juan Ruedas pulls out of a head kick attempt.

Juan Ruedas is throwing his legs up, looking for submissions. Jones is aware though and is defending well. Jones is frustrating his opponent with some stalling tactics from top position. Jones won't allow Juan Ruedas to sweep him here. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
Luke Jones showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards. That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action. Ladies and gentlemen, this is the final round!
Jones shoots in with a lovely double leg takedown. Juan Ruedas manages to land in full guard to minimise the damage. Juan Ruedas wants to stand up but Jones is controlling him. Juan Ruedas thows some rabbit punches from the bottom but they don't do any damage. Jones stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Juan Ruedas swivels though and keeps the full guard. Juan Ruedas looking for a sweep. Not yet Juan Ruedas, not yet. Jones takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired. Jones wants to control from the top but Juan Ruedas keeps moving.

It looks like we're going to have a standup here. Neither fighter is doing enough on the ground. Jones tries to clinch but Juan Ruedas moves out of range. Juan Ruedas shoots and misses and Jones moves into the clinch. Juan Ruedas tries to pull guard but Jones won't allow it.

Juan Ruedas keeping moving, preventing Jones from controlling successfully. Jones stopping the sweep attempt from Juan Ruedas. A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Jones accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it. Jones wants to control from the top but Juan Ruedas keeps moving. Juan Ruedas is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive. Juan Ruedas is working hard here to advance position. Juan Ruedas wants to stand but Jones is controlling the position.
Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up. Juan Ruedas defends well against a solid takedown attempt from Jones. Juan Ruedas gets his takedown attempt stuffed easily and Jones counters with a takedown into full mount! That could mean trouble for Juan Ruedas! That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Santos Juan Ruedas. That's going to take a lot out of him.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Juan Ruedas wants to control but Jones is having none of it. Jones prevents Juan Ruedas from getting the reversal. Jones looking for a guillotine from mount but Juan Ruedas is having none of it. Jones jumps to the side looking to secure the arm triangle…. Ooooh, that looks tight… Juan Ruedas is gargling but he's managed to escape! Nice work there by Juan Ruedas and Jones has given up the dominant position trying to land that submission.
Jones throwing strikes but Juan Ruedas manages to buck up and roll into a nice reversal - now he's on top in side control! Juan Ruedas decides to stand back up. Juan Ruedas has a takedown stuffed.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Juan Ruedas shoots and misses and Jones decides to take the opportunity to score a takedown. He's landed in Juan Ruedas's guard. Jones is holding a leg here, probably looking for an ankle lock - he drops back and goes for it! Juan Ruedas is in trouble! Is it all over??? No! Juan Ruedas has escaped and now he's on top! Jones working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Juan Ruedas doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Juan Ruedas manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem. Jones working for a triangle but Juan Ruedas defends it easily.
Juan Ruedas wants to pass the guard but Jones is keeping the position.
And that's the end of the fight! Luke Jones comfortably won the final round on my scorecard. I've got Jones winning every round here. Surely the decision will go his way and he'll pick up a well deserved decision victory. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
